Cyn, I don't put poison out. I am pretty sure it's a severe coccidiosis because it seems like they are all doing well with the Corid. The little guy that pooped blood 2 days ago has been eating up a storm and has a full crop. Fingers crossed!
My New Hampshires don't really care to get far from the coop. My Barred Rocks, on the other hand, range quite far. A couple days ago I "forced" the New Hampshires to go over to the vacant lot we have. They didn't stay too long.
My BRs and NHs dont range far at all from the coop either, but they are very young. My BBS rocks go waaaaaay down as far as the fence line. They are serious little bug eaters.

My Good Shepherd Barred Rocks have always ranged far and wide. So far, the Stukel Rocks don't venture very far. But, like you said, they are still young.
I have a pip in a Chocolate Orp egg. Actually, it is a Black Orp egg - fertilized by Mr. Chocolate rooster. I haven't read up too much on Chocolate, except to cross them with black, but I think I read that if they hatch out chocolate it is a female and the black at hatch are males carrying the chocolate gene. Is this correct?
Same here so far. Dru and Gideon hang close to the coop. Dottie, Wynette and Ida go way down the driveway, about 200 ft from the coop area and off into the woods. It's really age and experience more than anything, I bet.
Sorry, Kathy, can't help you with the chocolate gene stuff, no idea.
MY NH roo, Roy, has wondering further than he used to since he became flock leader over all the girls. I think it's because the girls like to wander far and wide.
ETA: Gypsy is worrying me. She isn't eating. Her crop is always empty. She sits down a lot, isn't asking to be picked up like normal, and was on the roost before anyone else tonight. There are no other symptoms. We removed her from the coop and put her in Zane's cage, fed her eggs and yogurt and she did eat some of it, then went to the back to lay down.
Sunny is in the bantam coop on the old lady roost since she can't make it up to her normal one. She won't last a week, I bet, so I bet I'll lose two hens within a short period of time.
Forgot I took a couple of pictures yesterday of poor, failing Sunny and a couple of others:
Weird shell-less egg laid by Hope. Wondered why Nugget kept sticking her head way in the nest, but never got in it. She was checking this out. Being a good girl, she didn't try to eat it.
EW, what is it? It was HUGE, about 3" long without the spear on the back!
