Cyn,
Thats going to be really pretty. We have 4 acres here. Lots and lots of mowing and weed eatting, Sigh! We are too old to do much of the latter. I want big trees now and less mow area. It is beautiful to look out at night and see those bright stars and see the lay of snow on the leyland cypress and lawn area though. As hot as we seem to be getting lately I would welcome my newer trees like the oaks to get a bit bigger and give me evening shade on this west side of the mtn. gloria Jean

It may one day be pretty, but for awhile, it will be very messy until we do lots of cleaning up. That side we are logging is on the west, but what is shading our house and the coops isn't going to be cut, so it really shouldn't affect us much, if at all. There is a group of 3 huge oaks directly behind the bantam coop in a triangle formation that I call "The Three Sisters" and I've decided that they will stay, as they are what is shading the back of that coop. As you can see, there is plenty of shade around the house:

The side below is on the north, facing NC and Vance Mountain.

I probably will but hold the roosters to see if one is nice. This boy is nice looking with a nice comb except for a sprig in the middle of points 4 and 5. I have no where else to find as nice a looking rooster. Otherwise I would take his head off with a good heart. He's a good size too.
What kind is he? Your avatar has a Delaware?

He is a BR from Kathy. I have 7 roosters not counting young ones. 2 Del, 2 blk orps, 1 lav Amer, 1 B. Maran, and the BR. My two dels are fine. Never give me a moments problem. Even when it comes to crowing. My Avatar is Nick. He's my original rooster.

Cetawin, thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will try and dig that sucker out tonight.
Cynthia, what a beautiful property. I know what you mean about downsizing on the animals. I'm dogged out at this point-8 years of seizure disorder with one, and the other is deaf, has alzheimer's, and needs a spot in the house to toilet because she can't hold it. No more dogs for a while-a long while.

Then , I love all 40 of the chickens, but should have stopped at 20, LOL. I mean how many can you give quality time to?

As for the economy, I saw a watermelon there for $7.50, when down the road the road side stand gets $2.50. Big difference.

The guys are have found what they think is an old logging road from when the place was last logged, maybe 40-50 years ago, no stumps at all, so they are dragging logs down and around that path and down the hill, onto the entry they made when they first began.
This was taken closer down toward the bottom looking back up toward the house and coops. You can tell the ground isn't being torn up with the farm tractor as opposed to huge pro logging equipment:

This is looking the other direction, down the hill.

Okay I am throwing my hands in the air...I just left a message for my vet to see if I can get Addie in tomorrow. I have been unable to get the "bumble(s)" out and her foot is just as big and now the pad is swelling as is a small section of the back lower part of her leg. I just injected her with one of the syringes of antibiotics that my equine vet left for Delilah. And to top stuff off, she is molting from being broody AND she has worms. I saw 5 of them in her poo. So I have wormed her. I am afraid if I do not take her to the vet I will lose her because I just cannot get to the bumbles and clearly the infection is spreading...at least the swelling and inflammation is.

After this afternoon's rooster combat...Lancelot vs starving stray cat, tonight I found a 'scratch' the actually need two sutures because it appears the cat claw got hooked in his muscle and tore a small section. So, all scratches have been cleaned, medicated and the one sutures with a small opening for drainage. I also gave him 1 cc of penicillin, just in case. I have no idea where that cat's claws have been or what bacteria could have been on them....anyone who knows about Lancelot knows I am not going to lose him or have him get sick over some stupid cat. BTW the cat died of lead poisoning. The sound that accompanied the lead poisoning scared my little d'Anver rooster, Rufus so bad I thought he was going to have a coronary...he had to sit with me this evening because he was still upset and then again why would he not be...a .40 Sig going off less than 3 feet from him would have scared even Arnold Swartsarooster. hahahahahaha

And my kitchen is still torn apart in mid "LadyHawk cleaning fit"

Cetawin, sorry about you not able to get the bumble out. I put my big girl pants on and made a deeper slit and out popped the bumble.
Now how on earth do I keep dirt out of the bandage?

Seminolewind....my poor girl has at least two really deep bumbles and I have cut and cut and cannot find them. :(

I wrap gauze around the foot after the antibiotic ointment is packed into it and then I wrap the foot with long lengths of cotton fabric and go up the leg a little and tie it. It is snug but not tight and that keeps the gauze covered and the fabric gets dirty long before the gauze does.

Bumblefoot -
I use vet wrap (it sticks to itself), over gauze covering a Neopsporin filled hole! Kola had Bumblefoot in both feet a year or so ago. I got the first one cleaned up a month before the second one. In my experience, it has to be, "ripe," to get it all out. Kinda like poppin' a pimple. I found that by getting the whole "plug" of cheesy consistency junk out, they heal pretty nice. I have had no luck at healing by getting only pus or blood out.

I pack it with Neosporin, and I do not change it but every 3 days or so. I was always gonna try PCN, but never did.

It comes in lots of neat colors, and is cheaper than "people" clingy wrap!
