Well I can't honestly say I'm happy with all that I did in my yesterdays, but I can change tomorrow and I'm working on it.

I never forget what the physical therapist said when I was having a bad day. "You're not at the end of the road, you're just changing directions". That was years ago and since then.

I got a college degree, been to Greece, California, Texas and Alabama, have 5 new Grandchildren and hatched a bunch of chicks and retired and said good bye to some friends and hello to some new ones.

My future Olympian.

He sure is a cutie!!! Friends may come and friends may go but the true ones are just like gold :)

Kathy, these BR's don't seem to lay very well. I might get 2-4 eggs a day from 10 hens two of which are SLW's. Does this seem right? They do have access to the woods and I wonder if you think I should be searching for a pile of eggs there? I have had some go broody but not lately.

Also do you think it's the 16% Dumor pellets? Should I switch to the 21% Agway pellets? I've let up on the corn/scratch so they have to eat more pellets.

Most of my Barred Rocks are molting. They started laying early (it was an early spring), and now they are letting up early, I think. However, we have also had 100+ degrees for weeks and weeks. The stress of the heat may play into this, too. Generally though, my girls are pretty good layers. I did find a couple nests out of the coop, too. One in a flower garden, and one in the middle of some weeds on the edge of the timber. Most of them return to lay in the nests.

I free range and my Rocks hardly eat any commercial feed. Really. Very little. Their feeders are hardly touched. They stop by the feeders on their way in to roost at night, and that is just about the only time. The majority of their intake is from the range, so I have no idea how much protein they get.

Good Lord have mercy, I am having a hard time finding someone to buy eggs from in Houston , TX. My SIL just called to see what the progress was. My GS loves eggs and won't eat anything else.

When they were here he said his first word. Chicken! This kid will need to be a Rancher for sure. He has so much misdirected energy right now in that apartment of theirs. He needs lots of room.

Kathy I'll have a look see in and around the yard later. We're finally getting some rain. Though not enough to make mud yet.

Lacy...she has to cook and bake for him cause she knows I will and I will deliver it to him too which means she has to put up with me spoiling her birds rotten for a whole weekend. She thought I was bad when I lived in Oregon but now I am only a short drive away.

I really should be sleeping as I am leaving for a poultry swap in less than 2 hours....insomnia bites!

Best of luck at the swap today!! Call me from the swap if you aren't too busy.

It poured buckets of rain all night long. It's been raining off and on for days now and though we have been in that terrible drought, I'm getting a little tired of things not drying out around here. We have cleanup to do after the loggers finished our extra acreage, cutting our firewood for winter and clearing the slash so we can put our back perimeter fence up to keep out roaming dogs, etc. Hard to work when everything is so wet that it soaks your clothes down to your skin.

Porch railings are green with mold/mildew and paint is peeling and we need to sand and repaint, but no way in all this high humidity. Guess that will have to wait for dry, cooler fall days.

Oh, for Lacy Blues, no syrup. Didn't want my big sweet blue man getting all sticky because then his women would pluck him for sure!

ETA: This afternoon, my man was looking a little dark.
