Happy New Year to You All, Second

What a great way to start a year with my chicken friends. I have beans in the pot and collards being readied. I am Southern you know.!!!! Love ya!! Gloria Jean

I am trying to get more "greens" into our diets. Can y'all share some recipes with me on how to do it? I know that would be WAY OFF TOPIC, so if you could send them via Private Message, I would be ever grateful.

DW is Polish so the house stinks from Kapusta or however it's spelled. It's yellow pea beans and Sauerkrout. Bland and yuk. I used to eat just a little out of respect for her Aunt and Uncle.

She also made Perogi with the GK's too. We had the traditional dinner last night.

Take care,

Rancher

Oh, I love Krout, My Dad is from the Mtns of NC and they ate loads of it in the winter. Perogi is good too. The peas I do not know about. The greens are only as good as the seasoning and the amt. of water used. Too little of the first and too much of the second can kill them. The greens need to be fresh. Old wilted ones will be off flavored no matter what you do. Canned, well their canned something, I never could figure out what for sure. I grow my own and pick them just before cooking. Gloria jean

No its not at all off topic here. I'd be glad to hear some of those green recipes myself, to try them prepared a little different than what I'm used to doing/having. LOL

Happy New Year Jeff.

And just so y'all know, I'm a kitchen leper so please don't tell me a little of this and a little of that. I need exact measurements.

OK....for greens, find you some Glory brand (canned) seasoned turnip greens.....just heat 'em and eat 'em. They are about as close to homemade as you can get without all the hassle. They also have good spinach as well!!

OK, who the heck turned off the heat!?!?! I'm just about to freeze my toosh off up here! We're currently sitting at 1F. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Since the three boys don't have ANY heat sources for their coop, other than body heat, they've spent the last four or five nights in the pump house. At least I won't be having to treat frost bitten combs this time around. They're great company for me...... But, ooooh! I'm getting kind of tired of cleaning up rooster poo!!

Hope everyone else is keeping warm this first week of the New Year!

Well now I don't like Collards but Cracker Barrel does have some good carrots. I usually or double of those.

I put the dinner in the oven tonight and trudged through the snow to uncover some parsely to put on top of the roast chicken. Next year I'm going to put a cover over it and some other herbs. Also make sure I snowblow a path to the garden.

Lord my back hurts big time.

Now Serrin, Cold? Good garden o' peas I nearly froze my nerve off opening up this morning. Last night I had DW put some Solanpas or whatever on my back and nearly every joint I have. Well I needed them on every joint. Went to bed at 8:30 just to try to stay warm. I don't have a dog but if I did it would have been on the bed too.

Anyone else make the NY resolution to lose weight. I challenged the kids to beat me at losing 30. The first one to lose it gets $50 from each of the other three. I aim to win it, though to be honest the real trick will be getting them to pay up.

I figure either way I win if I can lose the weight.

We had a family pic taken this year and they needed to use a panoramic view shot to get me in with everyone else.

I'm so fat we had one taken last year and it's still printing.

Well take care folks and stay warm.
