Sdwd

I don't post on this thread too often, but I do have a couple of pics I just have to share.
I've have the most delightful delaware cockerel. He has been raised in the house for the last month because he was the only chick to hatch...
He is rather spoiled. I can't think of a breed that I would rather hand raise than a delaware...

This boy likes to make sure you are LISTENING.... If there was ever a case of SDWD, this guy is it...

One month old...Are you feeling the SDWD ? ? ?
Nice baby. He is going to be spoiled just like mine. I Like hand raising them in the house.

May I ask what SDWD stands for? Don't mean to butt in just really curious.

Well Lord have mercy where is everyone?

I have to tell you my Dels lay better than any of the birds I have. I'll be setting up the incubator soon and putting some eggs on. Mostly Dels and Birchen Marans. A few EE's too.

I've been saving any eggs over 2 oz. The birchens are the biggest with 2.5 or more. There are some Birchens smaller but I'm not sure I want to put those to hatch.

The kids have left and are back in AL so it's calmer around here.

Take care,

hahaha! Love it! Thanks for sharing!

I have a video (non edited, so not so great) of my Delaware cockerel pen. I am preparing to butcher a dozen of these, and I need to choose a few for my breeders. Who would YOU keep???

I watched the whole thing AND. Some clearly have to much black on their wings and backs, and others their back is to short, so start with those. Other have all black feathers in their tales so those go next. There are some with L shaped backs, these have to go too.

Yet others have nice long backs and wing carriage.

I liked these. The two at 1:35 /1:36 , the one at 1:56 and the one at 2:58. I'm not sure which trait is the hardest to achieve mind you but these are my choices.

I'll have to review my copy of the standard. Though to be honest a rooster who is not big enough for the table isn't much good.

Kathy, I'll never be of valid opinion on the boys and you know it! I love them all!!! You know me and my weakness for the gentlemen!

Sorry about not being around much lately. We got just a hair over a foot of snow Sunday night/Monday morning and so we've been spending a lot of time digging out......snow blower not withstanding!

Talk about some unhappy ladies out there. The deer stopped by night before last and ate all of the scratch grain that had been left in thier pan. Oh no! They are NOT happy about that at all! The very nerve of some neighbors!
