Actually I have been wondering the same thing. Maybe like me really busy. I have placed orders for my chicks and some for eggs and getting ready to get more eggs to set this month soon to go with them. Now I have to do the logistics of where to put them all when they get here. Whew!!! I won't even consider what I will do this fall when its time to thin down to what I will keep. I hate that time anyway.

I placed 13 eggs in the bator and 12 are expected to hatch tonight, and I have pips and a chick!!!!! My own eggs, near 100% hatch!!!!

My Sebastapol goose eggs-2 have made it to lockdown with a friend of mine. So far, so good!

Delaware over Ameraucana - will resulting pullets lay the same color eggs as the original Ameraucana hen.
I have a white Ameraucana hen and she lays a bluish egg - I have a grey Ameraucana hen and she lays a greenish egg [ sometime a light OD green ] She must be a army chicken LOL
JUst wondering what color eggs the offspring lay or is it just random.
Planning on Delaeggers if I have a

Tom, you've just raised the subject that is near and dear to my heart. Time and circumstances allowing, I plan on seriously pursuing the "Delawegger" breed, in about another year. First, I have to build the coop and pen arrangement to accommodate such an endeavor.

As I understand it, from speaking with folks that know the genetics required to create such a breed, a blue Wheaten Ameraucana roo over Del girls is what is needed. Obviously, it's much more involved than that, but that's where one wants to start. At least, for the creature that I want to create. I propose a bird that looks like a Delaware, but that lays a blue or olive egg. Of course, to do that, they'll still have to carry some of the physical features of their Amer heritage: i.e. the pea comb, beard and muff cheeks.

I have one little girl who comes close to that standard, compliments of Kathyinmo. Cossette is a great little gal, even if she does have a bit of smut in her coloring. She lays a great egg that leans more to the blue side of the equation than greenish, even though her mother is an EE. Her daddy was/is a beautiful Del that Kathy also owned at one time, but has since re-homed. There are a few other known "Delawegger's" out there. Cetawin has a great little lady named Junebug, the Chicken Politician. She has the total personality that we're looking for in the future breed. And the list goes on.....

If you're serious about it, and are willing to wait one more year, I'll be looking for folks to hatch cross breed eggs. It's a long hard slog to get a new breed recognized by the APA, but I think the "Delawegger" is one who's time has come, IMHO!

Well since our last visit. I had a bunch of chicks hatch and then the light went out and 11 died. There are six left 4 Dels, 1 CR and 1 ee. It's been hard to bare. I try not to think of the loss.

I got a job and quit it. Just not a good thing.

I've got bunches of broodies sitting on eggs and I don't care. I'm not in the mood to fight them anymore. Spring is coming and there is plenty to do. If only the weather would cooperate.

Spent the day with the Queen today and that was fun. Went the farmers market and bought flowers for her mom who is sick with pregnancy. This will make number two for them. We went to the park and she climbed up and down the on the slide. Came home she took a nap and then watch Rattatui and played in the tub for at least an hour, while Gramma did crosswords.

And so it goes,

Rancher

Forgot to add, I am having the hardest darn time getting Marans eggs to hatch. They develop but can't seem to hatch. They are the hardest shell I have. No extra oyster shell and just layer feed. Out of 8 eggs only got one chick and that one I had to help out. It is frustrating.
