Sorry for my absence as well. Between trying to get ready for winter and fighting with my body [it's a long story] I just haven't had that much time for anything. Hopefully, once the snow starts to fall [in about another month here] I'll have more time. Hope y'all are being blessed with nice Indian Summer weather.

I am dreading the snow, but have three bins of yarn for granny squares. My goal is to use it all up.

Well I traded some chickens for some feed and oyster shell so that is good. I like a good trade.

Don't know why folks buy chicks or chickens when they can generally get them cheaper from some one else or in a trade.

My BR roo had to be put down. Don't know what happened but he got real skinny and while I did have him eating Yogurt and pellets he never fully recovered. His comb pale and all.

All the girls seem fine except an SLW died unexpectedly. I suspect she ate something not good for her as she was fine the evening before out and ranging while I sat and read. That early morning she was making like she was trying to cough up a hair ball and in the after noon had passed.

I could find no damage and she was very heavy with no weight loss.

I expect to try to find some BR eggs to hatch to replace my roo.

I was fortunate in that all the newly hatched Dels were pullets but one. He will have to do for now. Him and his father George.

Oh yes, Tom! There will be ice fishing in due time! But, there's always that gape of about two or three weeks while we wait for the lakes to freeze over sufficiently to support our weight.

Hey Tim, post some pictures of these granny squares you've been making. If what you're calling granny squares are the same thing I call granny squares, I might be able to help you out with some awesome vintage fabrics!

Ain't it always my luck! When I hatch chicks for others, they get all girls. When I hatch for mysel, I get mostly boys!

I hatched out 4 chicks for my dentist back n August. During my appointmet today he showed me recent pictures of the little hooligans. Sure looks to me like he lucked out and got ALL GIRLS!! Sheesh! My luck sucks! LOL!!!

The squares are crocheted, but DW does sew lets see what you've got. She'll be making dresses for the three princesses. Now that my DD has moved she might have her own sewing room.

Aaaaaarrrggggg!!! I had a whole reply typed up and ready to submit and the whole thing went wonky on me when I tried to add a picture! NUTS!

Well, what I set out to say is just this: Tim, you and I are talking two different things here. I was thinking you were referring to quilting blocks, not crochet. I have a ton of bits and scraps that I picked up at auction a couple of years ago that could have been fun for you to work with if you were quilting. But alas, you're not.

Tell your wife, if she's looking for true bargains on fabric, to do what I do: Hit every garage sale, estate sale/auction and thrift store within a reasonable distance from your place. You'd be amazed at the deals out there. I've spent as little as 50 cents a yard for some really nifty vintage fabrics. Most of my best finds have come from the thrift stores.

The only real downside to this is the availability of more of any given fabric if you happen to run short for your project. Most of the fabric I've picked up second hand are no longer in production. Finding more of any given color/pattern to complete a project is near impossible. Just something to keep in mind on that score.

Right now I'm working on a whole flock [figuratively speaking] of these really cute stuffed hens. The pattern for them was given to me by a very dear friend. I have enough request for a hen from friends and family to keep me going all winter long! LOL

I'll try to post a picture of the first one I did for my bestest friend in the whole world, the sister of my heart, who lives in Florida. She and her husband rent a house in Panama City Beach and the landlord has a very strict no pets policy. So, I made little Clara for Tira, just so that she could have her own hen, and say poohoo to the evil land lord! IF I can manage to find what I did with the danged picture that is.

And since we can all appreciate a good butt shot here.....


If anyone wants the pattern, let me know and I'll see what I can do about getting it to you. Each hen takes about a half yard of material, one 12 ounce package of polyfil and a various notions to make. . Once you're done, you have a one of a kind little hen to enjoy in your home without the mess and worry of a real hen

Serrin, very nice. DW is into little girls clothing. When ours were little she would make all their dresses. The queen is not wearing a smocked dress her mother wore.


In another note. I have a Del hen that is dragging her bum. She seems filled with fluid. She's and older hen. Any ideas what could be wrong? She doesn't appear to be in any pain. Nor have any hardness in her abdomen.

My first two guesses would be either worms or being egg bound. Egg bound hens don't always present with hard abdomens. Is she literally dragging her bottom on the ground, or did you mean that figuratively, as in she's lethargic?
