My first two guesses would be either worms or being egg bound. Egg bound hens don't always present with hard abdomens. Is she literally dragging her bottom on the ground, or did you mean that figuratively, as in she's lethargic?

No not actually dragging on the ground, just hanging low. I noticed her this am sitting in the run facing the corner. I thought perhaps she was going to lay an egg since I found one on the floor of the run yesterday.

Tonight I believe she was on the roost. No one on the floor where I had expected to find her. She is one of my older hens but not more than four. I will worm everyone tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

Well it looks as though I'll be hatching dels sooner than I'd like. I have George from Cynthia, but the one rooster that hatched is not to my liking so I'll be hatching in hopes of getting one I do like. The young one is just too skinny and has too much black in him.

Plus the hen that is dragging may not recover and I want to hatch hers if any are hers and are fertile. I don't expect many to hatch but Dels are important to me.

I have plans to buy some NH's from Paul Harter after the first of the year I think.

OK, I had to upload this directly from my computer, and it's not the best shot, but, you get the idea. These really are a ton of fun to make.

And since we can all appreciate a good butt shot here.....

If anyone wants the pattern, let me know and I'll see what I can do about getting it to you. Each hen takes about a half yard of material, one 12 ounce package of polyfil and a various notions to make. . Once you're done, you have a one of a kind little hen to enjoy in your home without the mess and worry of a real hen

Very cute.

Sheesh! We get what amounts to little more than a dusting of snow, and the predators start coming out of the woodwork!!! Yesterday, it was a juvenile Sharp Shinned hawk who committed suicide by slamming into one of the windows of the toy shed while in pursuit of a Chipping Sparrow. Today, it was a very skinny and wretched looking coyote that was traveling along the fence line and headed straight for my coop! Denny got one shot off at him, but he was really too far out of effective range for the 12 gage......nuts! Hopefully, just the sound of pheasant load whizzing over his head was enough to give him second thoughts about a chicken lunch. He sure took off like a bat out of Hades! And the shotgun now sits next to the door loaded with #4 shot! We won't fail a second time!

Something tells me, it's going to be a long and interesting winter around these parts!

Yep them critters are hungry - Both of my Enets got a strand chewed presume before it got hit with the 5k hi voltage. LOL
No penetration. Did find fresh rabbit fur out side the fence so he must have settled on rabbit instead of chicken.

Friend sent me a email with this Pic and thought it was cute.

Ok ladies , follow me . The grass is greener over here !

Great picture Tom! I've seen it before, but it's alway fun to see it again. Gotta love a rooster with such confidence....though I'm not sure his girls share his confidence in the route to get to said greener pastures! LOL!
