It was holding temps at 99.5 and 99.8 for 6 hours today using two different thermometers. I think I'll use it as a hatcher!! HOPEFULLY, Fall is just around the corner and I hope to hatch off a few Col Rocks

Hey!!!! This is a GREAT idea!!!

Can I join in on the heat index moaning and groaning? I have to thank heaven that I live in the mountains now and can survive this heat with window fans- it manages to cool down at night and we even sleep with covers on. I don't want to get AC if I don't have to. But if the weather patterns are changing, and we are in for cold snowy winters and hot muggy summers, we may have to make a few changes here.

The birds are OK- the Dels take it better than the Orps, and the little baby chicks love it. I shaded almost their whole run with a big tarp, and they can spend all day running around and don't have to snuggy up to mama Harriet at all. Once in a while I get a day like today- 6 eggs out of 11 layers- but yesterday was better than normal- 10 eggs. Usually I get 8 or 9. I haven't noticed a size difference.

My new coop (my Craigslist score) is in place, I need to put the run around it, replace the wire in the windows with hardware cloth, and clean and paint it. The 4 x 8 that I am building is almost done- have to put the pop door on, door handles and paint the nest box and the drop down cover for the big screen window. I am just tired of it right now, and taking a break this week. My DH has been very patient about the sketchy housework while I have been obsessed with coop building, so I need to dust in the corners and stuff!

Gloria Jean, I hope you get a good hatch from your broody- I am so sorry I still don't have a way to tell which Del eggs of mine will be Luke's!

Scott- that is a real find! Congratulations!

OH YEA ! ! ! You are gonna love it! It works out great for me! What a great deal you got, too! WOW!!!

Gloria Jean, thanks for the PM. I can't believe that hen is broody now. They are so nuts. Her mama, Smoky, smushed her only chick as it was zipping so she is back with Suede and seeming to come out of her long trance okay. Goofy hen. I do not want anymore broodies!!

The Dels do handle heat pretty well, better than the Orps, though Isaac is panting and almost dragging his wings on the ground. He's such a love, that guy. He comes when called, follows me everywhere, is just the best boy.

Suede scares the bejeebers out of me laying on the ground with his neck stretched out. I have to call him so he'll move and tell me he's alive. He looks like a big blue feathered beached whale!

Scott, I have that exact one and got it at a yard sale for $15 a couple years ago. It works just fine.

My oldest del cockeral, Fergus, crowed for the first time today.

We are having a heat wave here this week too ..... it is supposed to get up to 90 tomorrow and be hot and humid all week with highs in the upper 80's
