and I'm diggin the 2x2s I'm a fanatic about sturdiness, and these dang 2x4s are sturdy, but gawd awful heavy

(even the tractor groaned pickin up the little coop to move it to its resting spot

) Me and DH both agreed we can go with 2x2s for framing for lighter, easier movable breeder pens and brooders

We had a sure nuff downpour several times today
ep.gif
the carport is about 1/2 deep in water, ugh. That'll dry soon hopefully!!! All the free rangers got a bath durin the downpour, they looked awful

Been pretty uneventful round here, thankfully!

SnowHunter she did not say JACK....she just snatched the bag and hauled arse. Of course there were 18 other birds hot on her trail after the cheesy goodness. So she was too busy bobbing and weaving to "neener neener" or chirp.

Oh, and more cuteness overload.. the kids and the Dellie bebies

First of all: My apologies that the quality of these pictures is severely lacking and that there aren't a great many of them. Mostly I was more concerned about finishing up their accommodations and getting the Mama and her two girls settled into their new digs, than in taking pictures. I know....I'm hanging my head in shame....there should always be time for pictures, no matter what! I vow to do better in the future!
wink.png

Here they are, the three little darlings, about an hour, maybe an hour and a half after arriving in their new home. Notice that Mother didn't waste any time in making sure her babies were clean and presentable after their 18 or so hour journey to get here. Now that's a conscientious parent!
lol.png

001-7.jpg

It wasn't until tonight when I had the chance to snap a couple more. I went out shortly after sundown to check on them. Sure enough, Mother made sure her little charges were tucked safely in their new coop and under her wings.

Here is the first shot I took. This one woke them up!

004-2.jpg

By the time my camera flash cycled back up to full charge, Mother had decided to put her wing a little further out in a protective way over the one little darker girl. The lighter girl had her head and most of her body tucked between Mama and the back wall. If you look carefully, you can see all of this going on.

Again, I apologize for both quality and quantity. That blackness you see in the last two is caused by a faulty lense door on my now almost 7 year old digital. Hmmmm....might be a good time to start considering a new one, huh?
lol.png

Kathy, again, I can't thank you enough for this wonderful little family you have entrusted to me.
love.gif
I've always loved EE's and this little girl is, IMHO, one of the sweetest I've ever seen. Did I tell you that as soon as I got the box open, she very willingly let me lift her gently and carefully out of the box and then rested in my lap? I'm sure she would have been content to spend much more time there, had it not been for her two daughters, who in true Del fashion, couldn't be bothered to wait for an invitation to exit, nor to be picked up and deposited on the outside of the box. Oh my no! Hopping out and simply helping themselves was much more expeditious!
wink.png
gig.gif
They're such a great little trio, and I can hardly wait until the time is right to let them join the rest of the flock. They're going to be such fun to watch free range with everyone else.

And I'm so pea green with envy Kathy, that you and Mike got to watch them growing up with their mama.
love.gif
What a charming adventure that must have been. Since she has so admirably proven herself a reliable broody, if she goes broody next spring, I think I'll let her set a handful of eggs and see how she does. I bet she won't let me down!
big_smile.png

I can so hardly wait to see what kind of Shenanigans they can get up to tomorrow too!
gig.gif
Just so long as their plans don't include practicing escape routines, I'll be just fine! Let's hope she wasn't observing and taking notes and pointers from Floozy before she left! You better keep an eye on that one Kathy! She's gonna be a bad influence eventually!
gig.gif

Good thing these little girls are only half breed Del's by the way. I'd be in serious trouble if they were full blooded for sure! Wow! The looks they can give you even at just half strength!

Oh Serrin, LOVE IT!! They're just the most beautimus lil trio!

OH, Amy ..... I am tearing up here (real tears) when I see the pictures! They look wonderful! Have you thought of names yet? Mama is soooo sweet. I love it when she puts her wing out over the kids. I know you will love them and they will be very well cared for. Awwww, they are just so darn sweet.
love.gif

Oh yes, I hope she goes broody for you next year, so you can enjoy watching her rear babies. She is fabulous!

HEY .... welcome to the world of Delawares! You have been warned!
lol.png

I gotta go blow my nose and wipe my eyes now ..........................

Nic,
Those pictures are sooooooo typical Dellie ! Oh yes, you will love this strain of Delawares, for sure. They are most certainly the friendliest, nosiest, most curious little critters ever! THANK YOU so much for posting the pictures. I feel so much better, knowing they are all safe and sound now!

Oh Gosh Darnit!! I knew there was something else I wanted to say, but forgot to. Pardon me, it's been a very long and exciting day for us here! .......

NAMES!!! Great Googly Moogly!! I need help with names for this trio! I've never had that problem before, and this feels strange. I mean, seriously now, I came up with names for 13 pullets and 5 cockerels last spring with no problems what so ever. Of course, it took me a couple of months, as their personalities were revealed to us, to come up with the right name for each little hooligan, but still......You'd think I could name three of the cutest little feathered friends to ever draw breath at our place!
hmm.png
Wouldn't you?

Kathy, I sure hope those are tears of joy and not sorrow! Please don't ever regret letting Mama and the twins go. You know they're going to have a grand old time here! Oh yes they are! But I do understand the tears either way. I remember how I felt after I rehomed Griffin with two of his favorite ladies [two LB's April and JuneBug]

The gal who had adopted them, joyfully, had emailed me pictures one day. I could tell that all three of them were having the time of their lives. They were all three of them now top birds in a menagerie of a flock of young chickens, turkeys, pheasant chicks, quail and two very young pea fowl!
lol.png
I can't remember for sure now, but I think there were even a half dozen or so ducklings in that horde!
lol.png
But even though they were all so obviously happy, part of me still felt sorrow that Griffin had to go away at all.
sad.png
If only I had gotten him when he was just a little guy. I know I could have worked with him. *sigh* But I digress....proof that I'm now running on fumes and should probably head for bed.

Nicole, you be careful with all of those little Del's! You'd better check in with us at least five or six times a day so that we know you haven't completely slipped under their control. Heaven only knows how much one human mind can take in the face of such an onslaught of Delaware Mind Control!
gig.gif

OK y'all, more pictures hopefully tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great Thursday!
