Kathy, I dont know if they would grow there or not. Id tend to think not, since they bloom in the late fall/early winter here.

Cute pics Halo.......I have considered doing the same thing here. I sure have plenty of roosters, LOL. I bet my big blue cochin boys would be fine....i used to have a RIR boy (father of my big broody girl) and he was great with everyone. I considered letting him "father" some younger birds but ended up getting rid of him because he was way too rough on the girls.

My local home depot has a wooden 8x8 shed for $499. I am always tempted to splurge on it....however, I have nowhere flat to put it! Grrrrrr.....

11x7 would technically hold 19 birds. I don't go buy those guidelines as my birds only stay in the coop for roosting at night and free range on an acre during the day. Regardless of weather, they are NEVER locked in during daytime. So I have probably over 50 birds roosting in my 8x8 coop at night. Some bantams, some large fowl....I have lots and lots of roosts and they seem to do just fine. If i had to keep my birds 'Locked up' for whatever reason, I would keep no more than 20. 10 would be a nice fit for my coop if they were to be locked inside.

I'd say 20 large fowl or less would be great in there if they don't free range daily.

My pens in the breeder barn are each 5x8 or larger. I figured .... 40 sq ft = 10 birds. However, I have no more than 8 in them. Most have only 4 or 5 in them. I don't like them to be crowded, especially with approaching winter.

Ms halo, that so reminds me of how sweet Hawkeye was with chicks. He could be put in with any age, even close to laying age, and he would never hurt them. He was so fatherly, more so than Dutch ever was, but very much like Zane is when he gets close to a broody with chicks. Even broody hens who weren't around when Zane could still walk will trust their babies with him outside. Isaac, on the other hand, chased a 9 week old youngster all over the coop for some reason and we had to rescue the little boy.

The 4 sf rule may be a bit skimpy if the birds are huge like Suede. Suede's coop can technically hold 8 birds, but he has only 3 hens and he and they are so large, it seems cramped in there when they have to stay inside.

I was already very impressed that she trusted us with her most precious critter!!

I had told Chey she should come spend a few days with CJ over the summer. CJ turned it into at least a week before Chey decided it should be 2 weeks.

And I appreciate the lack of additional critters returning to our home...LOL I think had there been additional critters I would have been climbing in your van to go to my new home in Tennessee

Although he did not bat an eyelash when I took 3 little girls from your van instead of 1 replacement. He thought they were kinda sorta cute. LOL

Surrogate moms are very difficult to find these days but I know a good one when I meet her. I never had a second of hesitation in letting her go with and was not worried in the least. I knew she was in good hands.

So, when are the girls doing their adoption certificates? I expect to see something of the sort flying back and forth between them soon....LOL

That picture of CJ and Cheyenne in front of the artwork outside...I would love it blown up and printed it to frame...
