You sound normal to me

My red cochin is like that..she has a language all her own. My NHR talks alot too. The Dels are used to them now and are no longer surprised by these conversations... if you need therapy then I surely do too.

Regarding the rumors of a broody Nugget in the N. Georgia mountains...all I can say is RUMORS ALL RUMORS there will be no Christmas fuzzy butts...

Beth...Jo was so happy to see me this morning....and she pranced and nickered for her carrots. She is doing great. That Wisconsin girl is not feeling this weather a bit...the Stallion is shivering, Sarah's Pumpkin Roll is shivering and Jo...just as warm as a teddy bear. But I am picking up a 78" weatherproof turnout for Jo this evening from Sarah after her customer drops it off. I can bring it home, wash it and take it in if needed and then she can don her new apparel tomorrow.

Ain't she beautiful?

That Jo is one horse that is absolutely equipped for harsh winter conditions!

You'll not likely ever see her shivering out there. Not so long as she continues to produce her Wisconsin influenced winter coat every year!

She reminds me a lot of the horses around here in that her coat is so long and thick. And you know what that means? Come spring, she'll be completely festooned with little birds all over her, vying for her cast off shedding wool to build their nests with! Top grade stuff there!!

Kathy, if the birds with Australian blood lines are shivering at a measly 33F, there's a good chance they haven't had enough generations here to have bred out that proclivity for the thinner Aussie blood. Poor little tykes! Better keep the heat on them for at least this winter. Hopefully by next winter they will have acclimated themselves to your weather.

I gathered up 16 eggs this morning. I could swear I just picked them all up yesterday morning. Somebody out there has to be laying twice! Either that, or I missed a couple that were buried in the new shavings in the nest boxes. I really stuffed them deep and full on this last cleaning!

You know you've got them too full when a large egg can be covered up clean out of sight!

Oh, one more thing Kathy. Watch out! My batteries are fully charged now. I'm hoping to get some good pics of Maggie and Chief tonight when she does her snuggle up routine with him!

16 eggs, Amy? WOW, you got some good girls there! They appreciate their mama, don't they? Oh yes, I am waiting for those pictures! YEE HAW, I dooooo love pictures!

It is now 40* and the Coronations are outside, but they are huddled in a corner of the run where the sun shines on them. I will keep a heat light in that coop this winter. It should be enough to take a little chill out of the air. Heck, the (younger) Silkie babies are runnin' all over the place outside. I don't know why I worry about them, but I do. Brrrr, suppose to get down to 17 tonight.

LadyHawk, spill the beans ..... what's going on with Nugget? She changing her mind? By the way, I do believe you owe us a recent picture of Hagrid, don't you? How are Cannonball and Fattie doing? Done molting yet?

Nella, I have been just bringing in all the waterers each night (into the garage). When I go lock up, I push the wheel barrow and fill it with the waterers. Then, I wash them out in the kitchen and fill them for morning water. I hate breaking ice.

It is butt freezing nasty rotten COLD. And I am going to have to buy heaters for the waterers.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Beth, have you tried to make those cookie tin water heaters? They work on the plastic one gallon waterers. I use them inside the coops. Currently I still have all the water outside, but I do need to move them all inside.

Kathy, no, but I should try it - do you elevate them on cement blocks to keep shavings off them? The feed store wanted over 50.00 for one! I wish I could find something I could use outside-

Jo has her polar bear coat on - she will be snuggy!

Leggs, my Jersey Giant boy, is 6 months old now. Can you all tell me .... WHY won't he mate with his Mrs??? They are in a pen alone, to be sure he isn't picked on. He has always been shy and was picked on by others (despite his larger size). He and his Mrs. have been penned for a month, and still nothing..... Don't you think he should be, by now?

Hagrid? Do I have a Hagrid? You mean Hedwig? Yes a picture is due but that ain't happening until I can unthaw my hands to hold the camera or the phone. LOL They are all locked in the coop with their heat lamps and have not been out in three days...then again we have not been above 25 degrees in 3 days either.

LH has no clue what is going on with the Nugget silliness...

Amy you are right...these Kentucky girls have a good coat on them but nothing like Jo's teddy bear wool. I took off my gloves tonight and felt inside her mouth, ears and her udder area and she is warm and doing well. Amazing to me is that when I separate her hair and go down to her skin...she is dry so that wooly coat is keeping the dampness and moisutre away from her skin.

I have a psycho in my coop....my Salmon Faverolle, is acting broody...she has been in the nest since Friday...sooooooooo we shall see. Nut cases going broody in below freezing temps...snow....ice...dingbats!
