Alright, stop the presses! I am now minus 11 roosters! Woot. Posted a free ad on craigslist and had a million takers.....Boxed up all the "extra" boys tonight and met these people in the parking lot of
TSC. They were romanian and were extremely nice and polite. The lady even gave me a little gift bag with a big ol chocolate bar that is from Romania, in thanks. Awwwww. Hope those boys feed them well.
I did keep both blue cochin roosters, my blue wheaten ameracauna, my oldest blue brahma project rooster, my silkEE boy, both mottled cochins and my mille fleur cochin......and the teeny partridge cochin boy who is gorgeous and adorable. So cut my rooster population in HALF. Whoooooooo.....
Ahem, MS LadyHawk! Your boy is bleeding like a stuck pig. He is absolutely covered in blood.....head, hackles, everything. I think he got into it with one of the big silver laced boys, as one of those boys had a couple specks on his face and some blood droplets here and there. I'm sure your jerk, I mean rooster, started it. Perfect day to remove the silver laced boys, I guess. I had my only gold laced cochin pair in my breeding tractor....that boy is one that went tonight, leaving only the girl. I am going to cull her this weekend because she just doesn't "look right" and hasn't for a while, so your boy may start living the single life in that tractor if he can't behave himself. Little monster. He does a GREAT hawk call though. He was one of the first out of the coop this morning and had everyone stopped in their tracks after he saw something suspicious in the trees and alerted everyone.
I have only 2 boys left in the rooster pen. My extra mottled cochin and my mille fleur cochin. I am going to try to cover that pen somehow......and then move my mottled flock in there. It has a nice 4x8 hutch and the pen itself is about 16x24. They will be in heaven....Just have to hawk proof it first. and that will leave my "baby pen" open for the 2 boys to move into, if I can't integrate them into the main flock. I maybe would rather use the baby pen for the actual babies in a month or so when they are ready to start going out.
If I can sell off another 10-15 girls and a pair or two, I will be in good shape. Downsizing!
