Thank you so much Tim...she is very faithful and is praying for a miracle each day.
Thank you all for your continued prayers, compassion, faith and understanding. It is really appreciated and heartwarming.
Kathy...Jo is indeed a Godsend to me in more ways than I can explain. She and Cheyenne are becoming friends too which makes me smile. Jo looks for her whenever she hears her voice, just as she does when she hears my voice. Cheyenne always has a apple carrot & oat treat in her hand when she goes to visit Jo and Jo likes that a lot.
Okay, not sure whose genius idea it was to move that group out of the brooder yesterday. They looked BRRRRcold earlier tonight at lockup when I stuck them in their crate. I could only feel guiltier and guiltier sitting in here.....so i went out there and stuck them back in their brooder with the oldest batch of chicks. I feel much better now. They were obviously overly chilled......they drank tons of water and went to town eating....I noticed the young rooster and the biggest pullet have lots of marks on their face and a little dried blood. Looks like they got their butts kicked out there today. I also covered the open mesh door on the brooder which should help keep the temperature up in there. The groups didn't mesh very well in that brooder. I had to finally take one of the younger boys out and toss him into the rir/cochin brooder so she could attempt to kill him and take some wind out of his sails. It seemed to work....once I put him back into the other brooder, the newly returned oldest cockerel drop kicked him. I threw in a very very large amount of scratch and so they were well distracted when I left and should make it through the evening well, assuming the power doesn't go out. If it does...well....there are now 12 of them, so maybe they will huddle.

Which group was this? How old? Well, I am glad they are all warmed up now. How about you .... you keepin' warm? Dang, it is cold. I am just happy the darn wind finally died down.
I got lucky and found heated dog dishes on sale for $10 (or $11?) each at our local Orscheln's. All of my pens now have heated water. Some have the heated poultry fountain, some have heated dog dishes, others have the metal heat plate under metal waterers. Now, just gotta keep em filled up.....
LadyHawk, all of my prayers and thoughts are with you and your sister, tonight, and in the weeks ahead.
May He grant each of you peace and strength to face the days ahead.
. I'm sure there is more that I could, maybe even should be saying here, but I just don't know what it is. Just know that I care, and if you ever need more than a horse's ear to listen to you, you know my number. Call me! Day or night!
Actually wait, considering how Serrin spoils her chickens......maybe you should make up chicken sized blanket and send them to her!
Hey! I represent that remark!
I spent the better part of an hour this evening with big beautiful Chief on my lap.
That silly old brute actually fell asleep for a time, with me rubbing his wattles and him enjoying a good thigh rub. Oooh, how he loves a good thigh rub!!
Always his left thigh too. Hmmm...I wonder what's up with that? He never lets me rub the right.
And right in the middle of all of this wonderful, peaceful time with my favorite guy, Vivian decided it was the perfect moment to hop onto my shoulder and settle down for a nap. I guess my shoulder and lap beat the heck out of cold roosting perches and platforms.
Ya know, I just love evenings out in the coop, when all of the girls are pretty much settled in for the night. All the soft trills and coos of them saying good night to each other.
Is there anywhere on earth more peaceful than a chicken coop at the end of a long day?
Oh Cetawin, I am so sorry to hear of your tough times

This was the group that is like...oh..i don't know...5 MONTHS OLD NOW.....they went back into a brooder in the garage a month or two ago because they are epic go-to-coop-at-night FAILURES and I got tired of wrangling them nightly. They are all fully feathered. They are the group that includes the loofah dwarf bantam cochin girl. They are now back in their original garage brooder, which had been taken over by the group of 5 week olds that had the racist bantam cochin mother who got booted outside last weekend. Those kids are all bigger than the loofah, but the "normal" birds are GIANTS compared to them.
I'm actually sitting on the couch, drinking red wine and making COOKIES. Cleaned the bunny cages, laundry is all done....had pizza delivered earlier tonight. Poor pizza delivery guy. He said he had to do 10 mph and still slid around the corners.....I gave him an $8 tip on a $17 order. I should have given him more.
Took a nice long nap instead of tying blankets earlier. I have them all out in the bunny room now, ready to get going on them. There is no way in heck I would make it down my hill without wrecking, so I am staying home tomorrow....unless the bosses want to drive out here to pick me up. But roads are bad in town also.....that would be a very long 17 miles. I don't expect anyone in my department to make it tomorrow. SNOW DAY, YAY.
i am going to run out and check on chickens here in a bit.
Also, my brother in law and sister live very close to where I work. My brother in law works about 5-10 miles from his house, in a very populated area. They live in a relatively nice area that has roads that are NOWHERE near as bad as out where I live. Where he works is a MAJOR SHOPPING CENTER.
Here was his facebook status.
I made it, but many in our neighborhood didn't. They are parking at the grocery store and walking through the valley and up the hill. Others are getting shuttled by some good samaritans on quads. Almost lost control trying to back down my driveway... If I didn't have 4 wheel drive, I wouldn't have made it out of the parking lot at work.
On a sidenote, he drives a 2007 Ford F450. So there ya go. Most people are just sliding around and not getting anywhere.
The weather may not be too bad compared to other areas, but they aren't prepared for it here and so it just shuts everything down. I bought a gallon of milk yesterday, 200lbs of scratch, and a brand new box of wine. Don't laugh.....since my corkscrew is apparently non-existent, I would be WITHOUT wine if I had gone with the good stuff.
