oooppps, for got the Silkies .... edited it ...

I think I just talked myself into it ....

I think I am gonna get rid of a bunch of birds and just have a few for my own enjoyment, and forget everything else!

I'm not gonna lie.....my end goal was 50. I think I had about 150 at one point. It didn't seem possible to get down to 50! But here I am at 63.....and with enough birds sold to get me down to 54. And I have enough other birds "for sale" to get me down to 45. Below my goal! I don't regret selling any of the birds. I am enjoying the more manageable number so much that I don't mind that they are gone.

You are approaching 200 my dear.

I will never be without chickens. But I sure do enjoy the smaller number more. With a lot I spend all of my time carrying water or feed or shavings, or cleaning, or nursing wounds, or whatever. I remember back when I used to sit out back in a chair with a glass of wine and just enjoy the view. Now I am constantly wondering what i need to build next to keep the burgeoning population safely secured.

I PMed a fellow BYCer who wanted Welsh Harlequins.....to see if she wanted to buy my Quad. I am undecided on whether to sell them or not. But they are messy and gross and eat a lot. And I dont know anybody who wants duck eggs and I have zero interest in hatching them out myself and having to brood the little monsters. Had planned on selling hatching eggs, but with work it is hard to get to the PO. So if this person is willing to pay $100 for my Quad, I will let them go. My two new things this year were bantams and ducks. I have learned I like LF more than bantam and chickens more than ducks.

Put up ads. That is the easiest step. Pick out who you want to go and start placing ads. Craigslist, BSA on byc, your state thread on byc.......As you start to sell, if snowballs and becomes easier to let them go. first time you have an actual empty pen that you don't have something waiting to fill....will be awesome

The fewer I have, the more projects I can take on. I just have to keep the projects within my own birds. I may have 4 brooders full of chicks. But I am only going to grow the boys for 2 months and then give them away. Keeping only the girls.....once they hit point of lay, I decide whether to keep or sell. Often depends on what else I have in the brooders at that point. The more I sell, the more I can hatch! whoo!

I have done all this hard work, and spend tons of money ...
and I am not even hardly getting eggs for all of this. This is just stupid of me. Whatever was I thinking?

NOW ..... who and what and where to sell all these birds ???? I hardly know where to start.

LOL....know anyone you think would buy certain birds? Also easier to sell when you know they are going to a good place versus joe blow.

Well, at least they are worth more at Point of Lay, right? Gotta look on the bright side.......Just think someday you might only use half a bag of feed a day, instead of 1. $10 per bag of feed x 30 days is $300 a month just in feed. Yikes
