Ah, Severus, you disappoint me and break my heart- I really hoped that pretty boy would get it figured out! Well, Cetawin, do you have any Herbes de Provence in you cupboard? That's our favorite chicken seasoning.

Beth, I sure don't but I have lemon juice, pepper and various other options to flavor his butt up! He is just a pest. Of course, with women kicking his butt daily I can understand his attitude.

Cyn, DeDe was just fighting with Lancelot through the fence so I shot her with the misting water hose. Oh man you should have seen the look I got.

Stinkeye times 100. hahahaha I cannot have her intimidating the new boy. tsk tsk

Nella, I know it is hard saying goodbye. BTW Spike is doing fine. He and the girls are out in one of the small coops or the playpen every day. he is crowing and being the little man again.

Frizzled what? And we will not even discuss punctuation.

Glad to hear about little Spike! What a little monkey he is. I was going to take my last porcelain trio to the sale tomorrow but the boy is still looking pretty ratty, so I may wait and take them to the sale next month instead to give him more time to grow his feathers back. I've waited forever to find a good flock rooster and had to "rehome" a few along the way......and now that I finally have 2 really good ones, I'm getting rid of one. Sometimes I wonder about myself lol. My mille fleur bantam cochin flock is being sold, my runner ducks and last silver laced bantam cochin pair is leaving tomorrow....both silver laced cochin lf pairs and my 2 big barred broody monsters are leaving this weekend....taking a bunch of young cochin and d'uccle pairs to the sale tomorrow. Have some layer girls for sale.....Downsizing is going well so far....I wish I could get down to 50. half big birds half bantams. It would be perfect for my setup. I'll be left with some chocolate layers, olive eggers, lots of brown layers and a couple whites. Will have a decent exhibition quailty mottled bantam cochin flock plus all of my assorted colors of bantam cochin girls...and my Welsh Harlequin breeding quad who are staying at least temporarily. Dellies are being procured this evening

Anybody want any bantams? LOL

Cetawin, your Severus and my CB are a pair to draw to, to be sure!

Yeah, we've had that eye to bulging eye conversation more than once. Had a couple of those upside down conversations as well. And we won't even go into the number of times that we've had the kicked into the middle of next week conversations!

But through all of that, I still love him. Because when he's not being a little toerag, he's an incredibly sweet little guy. He still thinks of me as his really tall girl, tries to get my attention when he thinks he has found some special treat that I'd like to have, and persists in trying to groom me when I kneel down to visit with the boys. He's always at his cuddle up best at night though. There's something about "bed time" that brings out the very best in that little cuss.

Maybe you need to have a few after dark conversations with Severus, without interference from all of those "Butch" babes in the coop tossing in their two cents worth at ever turn!

LOL Nella...I have 7 more than I intended to have myself. LOL

Amy...I have not kicked Severus YET but I have several times indulged in my high school and college past time and overhand thrown him from centerfield into home plate.

My girls are not going to listen to a sissy roo not having been led by Thor. If the roo cannot put them in their place, they will beat the tar out of him. So, my hopes rest with Lancelot and the little blue Suede boy (I hope boy).

Kathy glad Dd is feeling better.
Hate to compare but I've had kidney stones and don't know who hates when I get them worse, me or the folks in the ER. Can't understand why it takes them so long to drug me up.

Tryin, you have no idea, I've had thoughts of being like Johnny Appleseed and going around the country switching out broodies eggs for Delawares. Wouldn't that be something with everyone going "where did these Del chicks come from?"

Now I have a question for ya all. I found a hen dead in the run yesterday. Though they have a run I let them out in the yard, I just don't have the heart to cage them up. Anyhow I didn't notice anyone not feeling well so I have no idea what happened. I know this is gross but upon examineation her butt looked like she was prolapsed but not really and then I wondered if she got her neck broken by Georgia boy during mating. He is very rough with the girls and I hear a lot of screaming, just freaks me out. Her head was flopping from side to side. I've never had a bird just die so I don't know. Do their heads flob from sided to side when they die other than processing? She showed no signs of other trauma. Is it possible she died this way?

Well thanks anyone who answers.

Brittney is comin' home! WBC dropped to 14,000. That is acceptable to treat at home. The power of prayer is truly miraculous, I do believe. I mean really .... the WBC count (I thought started at 24,000 was actually 27,000), just seemed to barely drop in 3 days with IV antibiotics .... but overnight it went from 20,000 down to 14,000 ! ! Thanks to all of you!

Kathy! That's GREAT news!!! Dorothy in Oz said it best of all.....There's NO place like HOME!!! Now she'll be able to get the kind of rest that she really needs! Without running toilets flushing all night long, or PA systems startling her awake every half hour. I'm so happy to hear that she's coming home!

And any time you need an extra little prayer, and even big ones too, just let us know! That's part of what we're here for.

Tim, with the exception of my girls that died from dog attack, all of them had the wobbly neck. When the life has left them, there's nothing to control the muscles any longer. Including the muscles that control their business end, which might explain the appearance of a possible prolapse occurring. Stiffness, or Rigor Mortise takes place after about 12 hours or sooner if it is cold, or later if it is warm out. Rigor isn't always an indication of how long ago a being has passed on, as after about 24 hours, Rigor dissipates as well, and the body will once again become flaccid. I'm not sure of the exact time frames of the course of Rigor in chickens, but that's about the range for a human. I would imagine in chickens that the time frame is shorter if different at all.

How has your weather been? Could heat have played a roll in her demise? Poor little thing. Sorry you lost her Tim. Hopefully she wasn't one of your favorites.
