Yes Gloria Jean, it sure has a tendency to take off when you least expect it!
On your hens and what the NPIP Tech had to say.....Has he/she given any name to this? Or do they consider it just a nondescript respiratory infection of some kind?
And you say that the Duramyacin is having no effect what so ever? How many days have they been on it now? Are your girls making anything like a sneezing or gurgling coughing noise at all?
Gosh! I really hope they'll come out to test and give you a name for whatever this is. Please, if they do, be sure to post it here. I think I might have something similar going on.
We thought it was pneumonia in Chief, as he was the first to show any signs of illness. On Cetawin's advice, [whom I still trust implicitly!
] I put him on 7 days of Tylan 50, 1/2 cc once daily orally. His cleared up nicely at the end of the 7 days. I kept him isolated for almost another whole week before I returned him to his girls. Guess what? They've all got it now, including Chief, again, with a few exceptions!
Maggie, Cosette, Lisette and GeeGee don't seem to be suffering from whatever this is yet.
So, yes, I have a very vested interest in how your girls are doing and what you find out. And there's also just my concern for you and your flock as one chicken lover to another!
I so hope that you'll see an improvement soon. If the floor litter [straw/shavings] was to blame for this, it may take a few days for the symptoms to clear up. I wouldn't discount that as being the culprit just yet. Best of luck Gloria Jean, and please do keep us posted!
