May is only 3 months away!!! Cyn, I will bring my little trailer, so we can stack sections and parts up if we need to.

Nella, the pen looks great! Y'all have a blast with LH- that should be so much fun! Please post pics! Your ranch is beautiful!

Have I showed you all the shed that I think I'll be converting yet? This is it. It's 7 1/2 x 10.8, but I think I might tear down a wall and expand a little. It's plastic. It's only $900 and I love it. What do you think? My local Home Depot will have it for a while- it looks just like the picture in person.

They are huge and gorgeous, and I will post pics if I can get some - i went out the other day, but the sun was too bright or at the wrong angle or something that I don't know enough about cameras to fix-
Boo is a light blue cuckoo, Ivan is a super dark, almost black, blue cuckoo.
I guess I will try Craig's list, but I think there is a lot of underground cock you know whatting around here, and I don't want them torn to shreds as training birds or something.

Nick, you can get something a bit bigger that is not plastic from Lowe's for about the same price- do you care that it is plastic? It is really cute.

Really? Thanks! I will search that. I love the name Ivan- a friend of mine named Ivan has chickens.

ETA, I found this.

This will be my second choice, depending on my budget at buying time. With the Home Depot shed I need 1,190 total, and with this I'd need 100 more. This includes chicks and incubator. Wait, I lost it. Oh well, remind me to post it later.

Actually, if you have shade, the plastic one would be perfect, because lice and mites would not burrow into the wood. Ya know what I mean? Plastic is perfect, I believe! Be sure there is enough ventilation. But, wow, that would be nice and easy to clean up!

Oh heck ya! Could you just imagine hitting that twice a year [or more] inside and out with a pressure washer? Good by poop! Good by bacteria and virus's. Just slap the chlorine injector on it and pressure wash with the power of bleach to kill everything in its path!

Oh how I wish I could do that right now to our coop, but as cold as it is, it would be months before it would dry!

I candled GeeGee's eggs tonight.

4 out of 5 are definitely developing!

Yaaahooooo!!! GeeGee's gonna be a mommy!!

GeeGee's gonna be a mommy!!! I guess I'd better get busy on that brooder for her. Thanks again Nella for the plans. That is going to be absolutely perfect for GeeGee's needs. I'm going to give her the entire lower half a few days before her chicks are due. Hopefully I won't break her of being broody in the process of transferring her from coop to brooder in the pump house.

A question for those of you who have moved a broody before and NOT broken her in the process: Is there any time of day or night that is better to move her from coop to brooder? I'm thinking night time would maybe be the best. I could give her just enough time to get settled on her eggs and then turn out the lights. That at least would maybe assure her staying on the eggs through the first night. If she can do that, I'm pretty sure she'll just stick with it. I sure hope she's one of those kinds of broody that Beth described. The kind that never give up for months at a time!

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I could swear that everyone sounded just a wee bit better tonight in the coop. It struck me as quieter than it was last night. Maybe the bleach is already having an effect on their colds.

It sure would be awesome if we could get through this without the use of antibiotics. I really don't like the idea of using antibiotics myself. One, there's the specter of making whatever it is more resistant to antibiotics. Two, I just really hate the thought of sticking needles into my babies and possibly hurting them! I can do it if there is no other alternative. I just don't like the thought of doing it is all. Especially if I have the wrong antibiotic for this mystery crud they have. A vet! A vet! My kindom for a good, kind, gentle, extremely knowledgeable avian VET!!

** Must be willing to work with chickens. Do I have any takers? **

Well folks. It's about a quarter past 9:00 here. Time for this old nag to say good night and head for the barn.

Catch y'all tomorrow!

Hooray for Gee Gee and her eggs!
Yes, Amy, I have moved broodies at night and they stayed sitting. I used a kitty litter pan for one to sit in once. Ms. Broody knocked it over and moved her eggs. She was in a rabbit hutch type coop. BUT, she stayed sitting. I just pulled the kitty litter pan out, and she did just fine. I think it is best, if you are gonna move a broody, to do it at night. I even covered her eyes to keep her calm while I moved things.

Well this is fun...I am sitting in the parking lot of a gas station 5 miles from home where I have been since 12:15 am. After sliding a complete near 360 degrees I managed to make it back to the gas station ...waiting on a plow to come through. Why was I put at midnight....well picked Sarah up and took her to work. So send warm thoughts all.

Nick, I worry about plastic all the time, just because of what the sun does over time.

Kathy, that is a great picture- that would work inside my hose barn for juvies.

Cetawin, are you home, safe and dry yet? It is raining here, no ice that I can see.

Amy, I hope this works for you, I hope the bleach does the trick!
