Oh heck ya! Could you just imagine hitting that twice a year [or more] inside and out with a pressure washer? Good by poop! Good by bacteria and virus's. Just slap the chlorine injector on it and pressure wash with the power of bleach to kill
everything in its path!
Oh how I wish I could do that right now to our coop, but as cold as it is, it would be months before it would dry!
I candled GeeGee's eggs tonight.
4 out of 5 are definitely developing!
Yaaahooooo!!! GeeGee's gonna be a mommy!!
GeeGee's gonna be a mommy!!! I guess I'd better get busy on that brooder for her. Thanks again Nella for the plans. That is going to be absolutely perfect for GeeGee's needs. I'm going to give her the entire lower half a few days before her chicks are due. Hopefully I won't break her of being broody in the process of transferring her from coop to brooder in the pump house.
A question for those of you who have moved a broody before and NOT broken her in the process: Is there any time of day or night that is better to move her from coop to brooder? I'm thinking night time would maybe be the best. I could give her just enough time to get settled on her eggs and then turn out the lights. That at least would maybe assure her staying on the eggs through the first night. If she can do that, I'm pretty sure she'll just stick with it. I sure hope she's one of those kinds of broody that Beth described. The kind that never give up for months at a time!
Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I could swear that everyone sounded just a wee bit better tonight in the coop. It struck me as quieter than it was last night. Maybe the bleach is already having an effect on their colds.
It sure would be awesome if we could get through this without the use of antibiotics. I really don't like the idea of using antibiotics myself. One, there's the specter of making whatever it is more resistant to antibiotics. Two, I just really hate the thought of sticking needles into my babies and possibly hurting them! I can do it if there is no other alternative. I just don't like the thought of doing it is all. Especially if I have the wrong antibiotic for this mystery crud they have. A vet! A vet! My kindom for a good, kind, gentle, extremely knowledgeable avian VET!!
** Must be willing to work with chickens. Do I have any takers? **
Well folks. It's about a quarter past 9:00 here. Time for this old nag to say good night and head for the barn.
Catch y'all tomorrow!
