**Shuffling in, cup of tea in hand, rubbing the sleep from my eyes** Good God! What have you people been doing? I take ONE day away from this place and return to find that I'm nearly TWO whole pages behind!

Nella, don't you know? There are FIDIOTS out there! Stay away from the FIDIOTS!
barnie.gif
You just stay right here with us where you're safe and comfy!

About the only time I wander away from SDWD is when one of y'all post a link to something that I should look at. Outside of that, pffft, no thank you! I like keeping my blood pressure and heart rate at a nice steady level!

So Nella, it begs the question. What did you look at that had you so ticked off?

Not that I'm gonna go look at it, but it does raise my curiosity.

Nick, all I can say sweetie, is: Just wait till you have kids of your own. Then it will all make sense! That bit about human children was just a generalization. I'm sure you're the exception to the rule!

Kathy, I liked the looks of that red coop. But I wonder how that one would be for cleaning. The OP didn't seem to take that into account. If a person made better allowances for cleaning, I think that would be an awesome design. Very cute!

The boy's coop, a converted dog house, is 4 x 4, and is the perfect size for the three of them. The only complaint I have against it is when it comes to cleaning. I have to partially crawl up in there to reach the very back end to scrape up the shavings and then pull them towards the front door. But then, I'm short, and yes, so are my arms. It would probably be the perfect design for anyone of a more "normal" height and arm reach.

I've procrastinated long enough on taking pictures of my set up. Today looks like it's going to be a nice sunny day. Perhaps I'll get pictures of my set up. Y'all might be able to draw some inspiration from what I've done. Though frankly, it's probably more inspirational of nightmares!

There are so many things I would change if money and time were no object. Mostly it's the lack of time that is my biggest stumbling block to making our coops and runs exactly as we'd like them to be.

For all I went to bed early last night, I woke up late this morning, and now I'm late getting out to my birds. Y'all have a great day. I'll catch up with everyone later tonight.

Amy I am currently uploading a video to you tube for you with a guest appearance from the Sumo kung fu chicken herself. That's right coming to you live. DeDe

Was just hearing that Julia Roberts was on the Ellen show talking about how she has chickens and how much she loves them and enjoys having them - dose this mean we are even cooler than we were before ? LOL

Sorry but until I see Julia up to her ankles in chicken poop she don't have chickens. She may own them but if she ain't taking care of them then she ain't got chickens. Now don't get me wrong i like Julia and all that and we're good friends but she and Martha don't take care of their own stock. They have hired help, something you and I can't afford. Well ok, I hire a kid to clean the coop but that's about it. I still have to get up and let them out and give them feed and water.

I just love when they say "I did this and I did that", like they really got their hands dirty. Good garden o' peas.

Honey , you were cool before Julia got her over priced birds!

Plus no ones cool if they ain't got Delawares.

WOnder what kind she has? Amen to that when i find mylsef out there trying to chip up frozen straw and throw the 800 pound wet straw into a wheelbarrow ---and hike it all the way back to a compost pile with my rubber boots up to my waist - ya got a point! Plus i think that stuff is fun - really taking care of my "kids"

Oh, yeah, you go, Tim! I just spent 15 minutes on a lawn chair with a Delaware hen on my lap with my arm around here and her neck stretched over my shoulder. Poor Gypsy, my best chicken buddy on the planet other than Zane, was up there, too, but she had to keep her head ducked down or Georgie would peck it for her. They don't like to share mama, that's for sure! I couldn't handle an entire flock of Delawares!

Today is beautiful at Hoot&Cackle.

It is 50 degrees on my front porch. I went down and cleanned the coop, I even took the shop vac and vacuumed of all the crossmembers
of wood beams and the wire on the windows. Yuck that builds up so quick it is unbeleiveable. The next coop I build will not have anything except the roost and poop boards that collect Dust, I hate

dust. The hens were happy to get out to the uncovered run today. It is finally without snow on it. They got in the sun and just sank. Like oh this is wonderful stuff.

I had to laugh at their obvious pleasure. By the way , no more sinus drainage of any kind. My hens responded to the clorox water. Or it could have been an improvement in the weather. But I sure am glad. That is the first time in 3 yrs. I had any problem with what ever it was. They still are laying quite well too. I got over a dozen from 18 hens yesterday. Have a great day everyone.
Serrin how is Chief and the girls? Gloria Jean

We have a second Delaware pip now. They're going to drag this out for two days, I bet.

GJ, glad your crew seems better. May have been reaction to something in the bedding, ammonia (which really sneaks up on you in winter) or just whatever.
