Well, we got about 14 inches of snow on top of what was already on the ground

It will be a while before the chickens will be let out since it is so deep.

Here is the front of our house, the porch is actually about 3 feet high.

Looking from the front porch, my "Denver" tree. That is a bird bath under it. The chickens usually like to hang out under there.

The chicken run. Before the blizzard DH removed all the snow that was on top so that it would not get too heavy. He also shoveled a path for me so I could get to it.

I think DH was having fun too. He did all the plowing and shoveling. He said he woke up from a dream this morning thinking that our little dog was stuck in the snow. He really had to shovel a path for the little guy to go potty.
Yep, Kathy can be my snow buddy... at least I'm not alone.

I shouldn't complain, you folks up north gets lots more than I do! I am too old for this crap!

These young boys (men?) are very little help, let me tell ya.......

However, they have enjoyed sled rides on a hill.

I have been shoveling forever, and do not make much progress. I am just not as strong as I used to be, and slower, too.

Mike will be here in a couple hours. He has made it through Kansas City, so less than 100 miles to go. I admit, I am spoiled. Mike takes care of everything like this. He is a great guy, really.

I made sure all the chickens have food and fresh water. I hooked up one heat lamp in the little red coop. I still need to put one in the other little coop where the Barred Rocks are. Silkies have a light, and the layers coop has a heater and a light. I was surprised the breeder barn was so warm. It was 40* in there. The 2 month old chicks have 2 lights and a heater. It has warmed the whole coop. I have 3 Jersey Giants in a rabbit hutch type enclosure. I suppose I will move them for the night, into the breeder barn. I have plenty of empty pens there and it will be warmer for them.

Argggg, still more work to do...... Tonight the wind chill is suppose to be 40 BELOW ZERO ! ! ! OMG!

Geeeeesh Kathy! You just can't catch a break there, can ya! **looks forlornly at Laura's pictures.....** That's what it should look like here! Dang it! We moved to this side of the state, just so that we could have four honest seasons! Winter started off with a bang with the snowiest November on record, and then things just went downhill from there! Call me crazy, but I want another winter like we had in 08-09! That one broke every record in the books for our area. And it was a TON of fun to me!! I know...I'm a little left of center, ain't I?

If it's any consolation ladies, I'm positively pea green with envy over the amount of snow just this one storm has dumped on ya. I'd give my eyeteeth to have the same. The chickens wouldn't be the slightest bit amused, but I'd be the happiest chicken mama on the planet!!

Glad to hear that Mike is getting closer to home all the time Kathy. Still keeping the candles lit and the fingers crossed for his safe return!

Laura, Give Kodi an extra cookie and pat him on the head for me. I know a kindred spirit when I see one. Looks to me like Kodi loves the snow every bit as much as I do!

Serrin, You can have all the snow you want, come on and get it...free for the taking. I agree with Kathy, I am too old for this. DH did not tell me about this when he proposed to me. I agreed to move back to his home in MI but sheesh! I guess he is worth it! I am not able to do any of the shoveling so DH does it all. I guess you could say I am spoiled too. Kodi, got to go on the plow run with DH, he loves it!

Nick, I am waiting for pics too

Oh, I am so happy Mike is home! It is dark now, so we are done for today. Will shovel more tomorrow. All the coops have lights and I think they will be good for the night. I am not an advocate for heat, BUT with 40 below zero .... I just can not leave them exposed like that. I am hoping none of the boys suffer frost bite to their combs. Honestly, everyone seemed just fine. I can not believe how much warmth body heat produces. The 2 month old chicks acted like there was no problem at all.

Hoping you are all warm, dry, and safe!

good for you Kathy. I probably would have done the same thing. I haven't yet seen the coop below 20 degrees even when it got below zero outside. Glad that Mike is home!
