Boy! Don't I just know it!

I give up! I figure I'll know when either they lay or crow. They can't hide their gender forever!

This one is gonna be a purty little thing though. She's already getting in her wing feathers and they're a beautiful creamy grey/tan color. I can hardly wait to see what she's going to look like in another three or four months. Just keeping things crossed for girls in the meantime!

Oh Cyn, that is so sweet, but also very sad. I am so sorry for her, but glad that the sisters will be peacefully living with the old girls. I just love stories of how affectionate chickens can be.

It is so great to hear from you, Amy! I need another... uuh... chapter of Serrin, LOL. Geegee is such a hard-working momy, sorry about your little dilemma there! Hug her for me.

Knox, they're just adorable! Were all three girls? I'm so sorry you lost one. By the sounds of it, there must have been something wrong with that little one from the get-go.

I know absolutely nothing about goats, so I'm completely useless to you there, other than to offer my condolences at the loss of one so young.

What breed are these little hooligans anyhow? Sure are cute. How about some pictures of Mama too? Do you have the daddy on site as well? Inquiring minds always like to know every detail ya know!

Mama is Bambi that is in my avatar - there were two girls and a boy - lost the one girl and of course she had the MOST unique markings. They are Nigerian Dwarfs - the daddy - hmmm well he was "borrowed" if you catch my drift lol He literally looked like a mountain goat - hairy legs like the pics you see - and he is tiny -
They are funny as they become ornery with in hours! So funny to watch.

Dwarfs you say? Well, how big do they ultimately get? Pounds wise? Denny and I have talked every now and then about getting a small herd going for understory growth control. [keeping 11 acres clear of fire hazard growth ain't as easy as it used to be!
wink.png
] I wonder if Nigerian Dwarfs would do the trick, or if we need something larger? Depending on their size, I would think predators such as coyotes would be a concern. And we do have LOTS of those around. Of course, they don't dare visit our place during daylight hours. Do these little guys need a barn or some sort of heated shelter in the winter? Or are they pretty tough? Keep in mind that we hit minus 14F Friday night!

Not sure on the poundage at all - they are not very tasll - keep in mind i am 5 foot ten and they come up- well their backs do at least to above my knee. I mean they will do the trick for sure on that sort of thing - they do need to be in a barn at night - no as long as they are not babies they do not need a heat lamp. BUT i will say my thought of goats always was - oh just barnyard animals - hardy etc. They are a bit high maintenance - shots - wormings - things they can and cant eat - mineral levels - the list goes on . Now my sheep - she is a desert paint - better at the growth control and not so high maintenance -
That is here on the right - she is a bit fat right now LOL - but very calm and sweet
