Brock is quite impulsive. One day decided to go visit his brothers there, and immediately took a bus to see them. (He knows his dad drives through there every 2 weeks) Now he wants to stay. I was rather expecting this sooner or later, as he goes back and forth. He is unable to live on his own, and will likely always live with us or his brothers. We like to "share" him.

Brittney now weighs ...... drum roll (she will kill me!) .... 150 pounds! HOLY COW ! She used to be 110! She is 5'1" or 5'2" ....

That must be all baby- she sure doesn't look like it! Has she picked out names yet?
I have something to send when the time is a little closer......

Hey Brittany! You're looking great girl!! Glad to see you home and improving more and more each day. Ain't a mother's love a wonderful thing? Ain't no substitute for it anywhere. You just keep listening to your mom and you'll be 100% in next to no time!

Kathy, I just love your Mr. Black. What a handsome fellow, comb and all!

Of course, we all know that Roosters are my weakness these days! Can't help myself. Just LOOK at them! Any of them!

Oh! And Brittany dear, that's not true! One can never know too much about chickens!

OK, I know I owe y'all a hawk story. But it's going to have to wait until tomorrow, when I have more time [hopefully] and I'm not dead on my feet here! Been another one of those ridiculously busy days where I spent a lot of time running back and forth around the property here and never really got much of anything done!

So, Saturday is looking like a good day for Hawk Stories and such. For now, my pillow is screaming out my name and I'm going to answer the call! 'Night y'all!

I'm sorry for jumping right in with this but I am so mad I'd like to wring her neck.
I have a BO sitting on 5 Del eggs. Well she squashed the first chick. I'm so ticked off.
I knew something was wrong when I went out and she was still hunkered down. I think I'm going to turn on the incu and take the other eggs.
I know it's fall but previous hathcings have been roos and I'd like some new hens.
Sorry again i just needed to vent to someone who would understand my frustration.

Rancher, I am so sorry! I hope you can hatch out the others. And I hope you get your pullets. Don't wring your BO's neck- she might have just have not realized she was fat bottomed girl and the chick needed some space-

I raised my Dels through the winter last year, and said never again, as I never got to get them outside till they were almost 3 1/2 months old due to the heavy snows keeping me from being able to finish the run-

I'm back and a little less upset.
I'm hopeing to have some pullets that will begin to lay in the spring instead of the fall. I want to have more hens to ship eggs instead of having to wait 3-4 days to have enough for a doz.
Also I want to replace my older Del hens.
When I got my first 25 they came in March and where in the house for quite awhile and then in the backroom off the house for sometime. They didn't go out to the coop til May I think. I was so nervous as a newby I did everything by the book. That's when I first found this site. Looking for help.

Of course I've now got two runs and an entire yard for them to run around in. What I need is a bigger coop. I have plans to add a second coop onto the end of one of the runs. I'll have to go to trilyns and take a picture of her "hoop coop". I hope to have it do double duty as a green house.

Well take care everyone
Love ya all
Rancher.

Tim, sweetie! That's what we're here for!

You just rant away! I know there are times that it helps just to get it off of your chest.

But please, don't wring the neck of your BO girl. I doubt it was a deliberate thing on her part. Like Beth said, she may have no idea that she pancaked the poor little tot with her big broody butt!

If you'd feel better about it, by all mean, fire up the incubator. Maybe let her keep on egg for all of her devoted efforts. If it turns out that she's psychotic after all, you've only risked one additional egg. If it was just an honest accident, then at least she'll keep her pride intact with the one chick.

A quick question: Is the BO girl an experienced mama, or is this her first time? The answer to that might answer a great many other questions.

I am sorry for your loss Tim. I know how precious each and every one of these little Del's are. Both to your flock and future breeding program, and to your heart.

I'll keep the other four eggs in my thoughts and prayers for a successful hatching, no matter which method is used to bring them into the world!
