Oh yeah, meant to reply on the dog thing.
Norman my super special little BABY of a cat has been having problems the last few months. Turns out it was an overdose of phenobarbital resulting in toxicity.....he felt so badly he wasn't really eating. And the longer he didn't eat (much) the worse he got. Even after we addressed the phenobarb issue, I still struggled to get him to eat.
The thing is, sometimes just jump starting their appetite temporarily will result in them improving and going back to old eating habits. I was giving him rotisserie chicken, string cheese, tuna....anything he would eat....he would generally take a bit or two and then lose interest and leave. So I was doing this as many times a day as possible.
Then I moved to the canned foods. I went to
petsmart and pretty much bought nearly every can of the flavors he likes (chicken or turkey), in all brands and types. And I went through them one by one. if I opened a can and he sniffed it and walked away, I would open a different can (and my other fat cats would demolish the first). I was able to find a few cans of food that he really liked....and I was feeding him 3 times a day. And still giving him lots of cat treats (he loves those) and some string cheese or whatever I was eating if he was interested. By the time I got through ALLLL of those cans of food, I had a few that he really seemed to like. and I went back and bought more of just those.
He had lost 3 lbs in about 3 months....and then lost over a half pound in the 3 weeks prior to us figuring out what was wrong. Best I can tell, he hasn't really gained much weight back but he has leveled out and has not lost any more. He should keep improving over time.
Just feed that dog whatever you can to get it to eat....you wont have to do it forever. Just get her jumpstarted....you may also want to buy some of the high energy nutrical type supplements. They come in a thing that looks like a toothpaste tube. Its a paste. High calories supplement. Give them a few doses a day, so even if she is not eating much, she'll still get nutrients.
