Tim, that hoop coop is fabulous!
Amy, the nests all currently have pine shavings and have for awhile, only because we haven't gotten around to getting more straw. We have always used straw in the nests, sprinkled with DE and have never had any issues with bugs or anything else. This happened while using pine shavings so it's not related to the nest material (I didnt think you were saying that anyway, though). Zane really needs straw because he is always on his hock joints and it cushions him better so he got new straw today. The main coop is all clean and fresh except the three main nests that were occupied. The floor, walls and nest we could clean were all sprayed with oxine and then sprinkled with DE and new shavings put down. Whew, my arm is about to fall off!
Ike seems to be doing okay right now, but it's quite nice outside, low humidity, nice breeze, in the 70's. And he's not chasing the girls much at all, either. Could be we managed to get that fungus on the run with him. Now, hopefully, the couple of girls who still sound a bit rough will follow suit. Gypsy suddenly sounds as bad as Reba did originally. She was perfectly fine yesterday because I had her face up against mine-she's my lovebug. It was obviously incubating and just manifested today.
