As I'm very fond of saying: The worst day fishing is still better than the best day working!

We used to fish quite a lot when we were younger and now it's time to get ready for fall planting. Been cleaning coops too, 4 done 6 to go. Hope every one is having a Happy Labor Day...

Well I thought this thread was dead. No Kathy, Cynthia or Scott who started this thread to begin with.

anyhow working to get things done for the winter. Still have young chicks that hatched about a week ago. Not dels though and broody hatched.

A BR still sitting in a nest on nothings. She won't give up.

Have some new frizzle chicks. Thought my hens had quit but no, Buckwheat laid some eggs that got hatched.

I had hens hatching my Birchen Marans since they are hard to do in the incubator. Most of what is out there that is new were broody hatched. Mostly EE's , Dels and Marans. I didn't do orps or CR's since they're a mixed flock and I've no idea who the father is. Come spring I'll split them up or at least pull the CR roo.

E mailed Kathy about some chicks. Paul Harter too. Thinking of spring.

Garden didn't do as well as I'd have liked. A few tomatoes, perhaps enough to do some jars of salsa.

Been doing up jams. Plum and Plum Lime the latest. Had done some with Blue berries in them and the freezer is full of berries. Expect to pick some more raspberries.

Did some Apple sauce and expect to pick more apples to do more.

Joined another Granny square swap. This one for Cancer ribbon designs. Only nine participants.

I've taken a part time job, working at a retirement home. I drive the bus to take residents to their appointments. Friday is bank day and grocery shopping. Not to many go but it's work. Also we do a trip of some kind. Once a month to the casino. I don't gamble but I do have to keep an eye on them.

DD is expecting Donovan in November.

Went to the NYS fair. You would not have believed how bad some of the chickens were. A friend reported seeing one dead in the cage. I saw one for sale that had it's rear all plucked to smithereens. Others on the New york chickens lovers thread reported sick birds. That is why I don't show.

We have two weddings this month. DW and I serve in the kitchen and set up. The last wedding was over 400 people. DW is right now making dresses for three of the little girls in one and is slated to make the cake for another. I do my part by staying out of her way.

Well take care,

Rancher

Yes, definitely on life suport! Not sure the patient will survive this kind of apathy.

Aaaah, but the fond memories I have of this thread in its heyday. We certainly did have a lot of fun in here then! Maybe with the coming of winter, more folks will have time to drop in and update us all on the goings on of their summer months. Hint. Hint!

It ain't dead yet.

I'm working now so I am busy. Making apples sauce today and hope to do a couple of more chores. I also bought plums to make some more jam.

Bought a Granny Smith apple tree today, so I have to get that in the ground. Most of the time I can't decide where to plant things.

Joined the Granny square swap and I don't think I'll be done on time.

Chickens doing okay. Dels still laying the best. Most others have let up a bit. Especially the CR's and Orps. Even the Marans which usually do okay are on the downside.

The new Del hens haven't started yet, but I'm not surprised. I've got three coops on Grower since some can't handle the layer. I do hope to order some CR eggs in the spring from Scott to add to the five I have now.

No plans for new coops but will do a hoop for hay and shavings storage. I have to free up the garage.
