Sounds like Cetawin is sharing her wine with Spike-

Cyn- really? She might be a little blue girl? Maybe we'll know in another week- she is about the age of my chickies, and I can't tell about Emma yet, either.

Cetawin : you need a return check policy. You've got their addresses I send them a bill for the charges, or send the sheriff over to their house. What exactly do you sell? No rain here thank God. The skeeters are awful and I haven't seen a bat all summer.

Happy: I've got one hen with a couple of chicks and one w/ a 6wk old. I don't want any right now but these girls can be awful determined to set. I only give them Del eggs though.

Now I don't know what's going one but the last two day the chickens have been hanging out near the coop and inside the run. I thought it was cuz I was mowing yesterday but I looked out this morning and the only one outside the run is the Georgia boy. Could it be because I've kept Nick and the girls in their run? Nick is the Dominant roo. I've kept them in their run so I can see who's laying of my 6 older hens. Nicks the man right now and I dont' want any chicks from Georgia boy.

Well I slept late but I guess I'll have to got out there and see what's going on. Take them some bread that usually brings them runnin. I wonder if it's cuz I've been givin them food in the run and they just get full in the morning. Minnie Rose says to feed them at night and then they lay early in the day. Does it really matter when they get fed?

ta, ta for now (oh I did get up at 6:30 to let them out)

LOL....getting the 3 girls plus 1 boy will give you an even number of boys/girls....then you could sell of extras as pairs

Or eat the boys. Yum. (I kid, I kid)

I will take 8 million dollars for the ducks. Just kidding......I will PM you. Meeting the man in Georgetown this weekend so I can ferry them along with me....otherwise won't be back in Lex until.....maybe October but possibly not until January

I have read that also. That it is more important that they eat just before bed time than any other time. I can not recall all the details, but something about the digestion process at night. Interesting about the egg laying time though.

Hello folks.....

Hotter 'en blue blazes here AGAIN today....supposed to reach 97F.

My Columbian Rock boys are finally "gettin friskie" and the younger girls are getting real tired of them already!! The 3 that are not laying yet are probably a month or so from POL....so the boy's amorous attention is not well received at this point. So far, the boys haven't tried the grown up girls that are in there with them (2 CRs, 2 black rocks and 1 blue rock)

I'm wrestling with an idea. Seems that the Delawares have a fair number of folks raising them now (thanks to Cyn!!) so I will probably not be raising any more of them.

Columbian Rocks are so rare in the US now and badly in need of attention. I think I am going to focus my attention going forward to raising them and a small pen of breeder quality BRs. BTW - my CRs are EXACTLY like my Dels (maybe worse)....they follow me around like a "flock" of puppies....scream for attn and you can't sit down without 2-3 in your lap. People who are real "breeders" are telling me I need to raise 150-200 chicks per yr and plan on keeping on the BEST 10% if I want to really improve them...thats gonna require some space that with my current set up ain't happenin'

Things here have gotten to the point of "hodge podge" again and my OCD doesn't deal well with it

Right now I have in grown or nearly grown birds:
5 Dels
3 silkies
2 black rocks
2 blue rocks
2 splash rocks
11 Columbian rocks
20 breeder quality BRs

Young birds
4 blue rocks

Hope everyone is stayin' cool in this *&^% weather.

Have a great day!

I'm gonna send you some YELLOW LEGGED BR pullets this Fall!!

Not gonna get rid of anything (Pepper is MY buddy)....just gonna let nature take control and not hatch anything other than BRs and CRs
