Hey Tim, that sounds really cool on the old hatchers. You can usually tell if they're antiques or not. They'll be built more like a piece of furniture than a piece of farm equipment. And the really old ones will be heated through an old kerosene heating unit. Most of them you see now days are to be found at the back end of the barn, covered with every bit of a half century or more of dust, cobwebs, spider nests and maybe a hornet nest or two. And they're usually stacked chest high with boxes of old junk. But every now and then you get lucky and find one that someone has lovingly restored. Those are a joy to behold. If you're good with diamonds in the rough, you may have this winter's entertainment all lined up already!
Kathy! Guess what I did today, with a little help from DH? We got the old dog house moved to the side scratch yard!!
So, tomorrow I'm going to start laying out nest boxes, roosting bar, windows and the ramp to the pop door. We also have to get it elevated a bit so that I can just reach right into there without any problems to take care of mama and the babies. Denny is under the impression that this is going to be the "Old Girls" home as soon as I have it all squared away. Shhhhh...what he don't know, ain't gonna hurt him!!
*insert diabolical, scheming woman here* Though I bet you anything, I could move the four girls into there as well and there would still be room left over. Hmmmmmm.......Anyhow, just wanted to let you know that progress, albeit slow, is being made towards getting mama and the babies up here.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to what I could bomb the living daylights out of the interior of the dog house/soon to be chicken coop with? I have fumigator bug bombs, but I think that might be a bit of extreme overkill, considering that they're meant for something like 1,100 square feet!
But I would like to kill off all of the creepy crawlies roaming around in there before I have to get in there to mount certain items for the girls. *Shudder* Y'all should have seen the fugly little 8 legged monsters we chased out from the underside of the darn thing! Ewww! Ewww! Just EEEEEWWWWWW!!! My skin positively crawls just thinking about it!
Well, time to go put the boys to bed and collect eggs. Yack with y'all later!
