Brandon,
Don't ever let Ladyhawk pick out chicks for you.

She is a rooster magnet, and can only pick out the roosters.

Out of 10 chicks, she picked out 5 for me ............... ummm hmmmm, they are all cute little boys.

OK, now that was just strange. I subscribe to this thread, which is how I know when things are poppin' in here. I got my usual email notification that there have been new posts, but when I clicked the link in the email, it said, and I quote: "Bad request. The link you followed is incorrect or outdated" What The Heck!?!?!? Cyn? Do you know anything about that? I had to come in through more conventional routes [i.e. Index + Random Ramblings + SDWD] What a PITA!

I know, I know...I'm griping about a little glitch that I could easily get around. No big deal. Except that I'm a creature of habit. It's not nice to upset my habits you know!

:lol Just kidding.

*sigh*

Hey Kathy! Just what is wrong with little boys? You can't have chickies without them ya know!

And Cetawin ain't the only one completely besotted with the little goobers. If I could, and have them all get along with each other, I'd have me another half dozen or so boys! They're just so entertaining!

I currently have THREE pens of ALL roosters .... that is like 30 boys of only 3 breeds. They are now at the age where they are thinking about killing each other! No girls around them, so they revert to jail house type behaviors!

I have GOT to get rid of some of these sweet boys!

Now, the new and upcoming groups are looking awfully red in the combs as well....

Probably a glitch, but I'm not the geek on staff (that would be Nifty) so you're asking the wrong person, LOL.

WHAT? Holy Crap Kathy are you serious? That means Sarah got girls because she wanted a new breeding boy. I never get what I want...I was going for girls and a boy. You all know I had roo on the brain having lost my Thor....they felt it and moved towards me.

Serrin : "diabolical schemeing woman" ? Is there any other kind? Well ok, it just has to do with chickens. No one serious about chickens wants to look to close right? Kinda like " I can quit anytime I want".?

Cetawin: fyi, I had my heart set on a house and it was less money and well it fell through but now I'm on 3 acres mostly wooded and have CHICKENS! Not something I planned on but very happy I have. Don't settle. For every dollar she tries to squeeze outta that place she'll spent 5. When we figured out how much it would cost us each month to have our old house on the market each month between mortgage and taxes and utilities, it was worth it to come down a few thousand, so hold out and see what happens. Don't settle for a higher interest rate or ballon mortgages and all that complicated crap. Just a straight up "fixed rate" . The place you have you like but the deal is to much stress for it to be a good thing.

Braclin: you need to make sure you update your spyware and other virus software regularly. Plus you can have two kinds of spyware and virus software at the same time. What one doesn't get the other does. "Spybot" is freeware so you don't pay for that and can be added to your "payware" like Norton or McAfee. Though my son the computer anylist says Norton is better. McAfee runs to much other stuff alongside it's virus protection.

Take care everyone

In answer to your question about the "mixes"....its a total accident. I have 2 blue rocks in with my Delawares (Pepper needed a few extra girls). Had NO intention of more chicks this year.

However, when Sugar went broody, I just put all the eggs she had under her and some were Del x blue rocks

I'm not keeping any of them....ITSMYOBSESSION is coming to get all of them this weekend

I've pretty well decided to stick with raising only the Barred Rocks and Columbian Rocks from here on out...I really dont have the space to do more than 2 varieties correctly with breeding pens, grow up pens, etc, etc

I've pretty much decided that the bulk of my flock will be Rocks, both barred and blue, with maybe a few Buff Orpingtons and Ameraucanas thrown in. And I want a small flock of bantams, too, but after my beloved Suedenator has passed on, no more BBS Orps. I love the Delawares, but mine are always clay colored from the Georgia dirt and I've never been a huge white chicken fan.

I have been looking at the English type Orps for a couple years and I have decided that I actually prefer the American type over the others. I don't feel the draw of those like folks seem to lately-to me, they are too Cochin-like. So, I'm going to be a rebel about that one and stay off the fan-wagon.

Apparently I am going in the opposite direction......instead of deciding to focus on breeding and narrowing my birds to fit this goal.....I am focusing on NOT breeding and narrowing my birds to fit this goal. As in, selling off the breeding sets that have actual value and keeping a huge motley crew around to be pretty lawn ornaments. The only group I keep for possible actual breeding are my mottled cochins.....just something about them. They are so pretty

Chicken sale in a week and a half.......going to pack up 15-20 birds and sadly have to snag some girls out to sell with the boys. Trying to do one last hurrah before "winter". If winter ever gets here, that is.........I still have one batch of "younguns" growing up that will have to have some boys culled out of.......however, I think it'll be a few months before I can decide on them. Not sure if I'll hit my 50 bird goal for winter, but by golly, I'll try. LOL.
