Cetawin, you should have taken that blue cochin from the july swap. He is such a good rooster. He would smack Severus upside the head.....he is great with calling his girls over for treats and you should see him kung fu kick the other roosters off the girls. He doesn't bother his dad at all, but he drop kicked Mr Mottled off one of the girls this morning and then when Mr Mottled simply wandered back over to a different girl, he ran over there and cut him off at the pass.

Interesting sidenote: last winter i bought a quad of Large Fowl blue/splash cochins. Blue Rooster, Blue hen, and 2 splash hens. 1 splash hen is downright gorgeous, very distinct 'splashing'. The other is very light and washed out. Almost a platinum.....probably the result of splash on splash for too long or something like that. Anywho, the neat part is that she lays an incredibly dark egg. Like MARANS dark.

Huge splash cochin. DARK EGG. Best of both worlds! And this young blue cochin rooster is the result of HER and my blue cochin rooster. So even though his coloring is slightly off (great blue but red leakage on neck) he should pass on some great dark egg genes.....it may not be the standard but its NEAT. And they are HUGE.

Those legs sure are yellow. Bet he feeds lots of corn! JUST KIDDING. Ha!

NellaBean, I ultimately want a cochin roo (standard) but I have got the pens sorted out and built in the main coop, duckie housing, fencing, bantam housing, a horse stall, horse fencing and more things than I can count...I also have to make sure I am still going to be living here before I do it. hahahaha

You have no idea how much I want this show on the road so I can start building permanent fencing and such.

Kathy! I am coveting your BRs, girl! Those are some neon orange legs on those barred kids! Wow! Been working on the quilt and I am bushed. My back is screaming so had to quit for tonight.
The Blue Orp is still here-there was a problem that nixed his rehoming, so I still have two spoiled boys in there with the old ladies.

Well dang Cyn...is she going to come another time to get him? a page back is a picture of your bad grandchild Cannonball and your bad girl DeDe. LOL

I doubt they will stay that color, because I do not feed corn, and only rarely do I feed scratch. Jeremy said he does feed corn .... like a 5 gallon bucket full for 100 chickens a day.

Your quilt is coming together quite nicely! I can hardly wait to see it all finished up.

2 spoiled boys in with the old ladies? Oh my ..... why don't ya just grow em out for dinner? Lemme tell ya, those home grown dinners are deeeeeeelicious! I had to take a few from our freezer up to Iowa, to the kids. And, of course, eggs.

I think I have this whole covered run/big coop partition thing all figured out. Now to scrape together the ompf and energy to "Git 'er Done"! Not to mention the time to do it in. Denny helped me a bit today, and so I have just the finishing touches to put on the little coop for Mama EE and company. Mostly putting on a front and pop door where the dog doorway used to be. I'd like there to be at least two nest boxes in there as well as one large diameter roosting bar. Put together the ramp and attach it and it will all be done! Anything beyond that would be strictly cosmetic and could be done at a later date.

But nothing can move forward until I have completely addressed the situation with the boys. Once they're taken care of Kathy, I'll be able to give you the all clear to send mama and babies up. I so hope they like it here!

Like Beth said, like draws to like, and maybe having two other little EE girls will help her to feel right at home. Esther and Sonic, true to EE form, are such friendly and easy going little girls. I betcha once they get to know each other they'll become the inseparable Three Amigo's!

I will try to get pictures tomorrow. I noticed that her sister (the one in the picture standing up on my lap when i was sitting outside) is molting .... feathers fallin' out all over the place! I gave her some extra protein treats tonight when she came up to see me at the house. These EEs are spoiled rotten. They are the only 3 left from our original chick purchase. One lays a pink egg, and the other two lay pale green. All are really pretty eggs. And they are very good layers, too. They rarely miss a day.

Oh my heavens Kathy! Yours too? I swear, every time I turn around right now, it looks like Abby has exploded right where she stands! If she remains in one place for more then five minutes, she's guaranteed to have a small pile of feathers at her feet. I swear she could put a Big Leaf Maple tree in autumn to shame!

That's how fast these feathers are falling off of that poor little girl!

Besides extra protein, is there anything I can give Abby to help slow down the rate at which she's loosing her feathers? I've never seen her go through a molt quite like this one. It's rather disturbing to watch, especially with the onset of fall coming on here.

Any recommendations from y'all will be greatly appreciated and immediately implemented!

At this rate, I predict she'll be completely naked by 5:00PM two weeks from today!

Poor, poor little girl. And she's been doing so well lately following the passing of whatever the obstruction was. At least, I think she had an obstruction of some kind in her digestive system.

It sure seemed that way to me. Come on Abby! Don't fall down on me now girl! Who else is going to sit up till all the wee small hours of the night, eating those pesky moths that keep getting on my monitor???
