Wait, Kathy, you quit your job?? I missed that the first time.

Yes, Scott, Emily is from halo. She's been on the nest for hours and is still gripey as a cobra. I have three Delaware eggs is all I have to put under her unless I hatch out some mutts. I would have driven to get BR eggs from you, Scott, if we decide to let her brood. Dang! I know that old muddstopper is going to be pushing the Buckeyes on me now, LOL, right Bill? Honestly, I don't want the Dels. With only three eggs, I'd end up with three roosters to find homes for, anyway. Sigh.

Yup, I quit. It was getting pretty bad, and all the nurses feel like we were risking out licenses working there. Most nurses up and quit. The place will be closing very soon anyway. I had planned to stay til the end, but felt it was just too risky. I will be job hunting in a couple weeks. I actually have a couple places I talked to before I quit, so I will follow up with them. It isn't usually too hard for RNs to find a job. I say, "usually," hoping it won't be too difficult anyway. I may have to drive, where I was only 5 miles from home. Local hospital is less than 3 miles from me, and they have a psych unit. I am thinking that will be my preference.

Or you could just stay home, raise chickens and quilt like me!

ETA: and be very poor, too.

We might just go ahead and sell out house in Iowa. If we do decide to do that, I will just stay at home. Otherwise, I need to work for 2 more years.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the best. It's a hard, life changing decision, I know, to decide to stop being in the workforce.

What do I do? If we decide to let Emily brood, and Tom may since we've lost so many older ladies recently, what do I put under her? I don't really want to put the Del eggs. Maybe Bill will trade me three Dels for a few Buckeyes, though I'm sort of half hearted about those right now. What a dumb time to let a hen brood! Argh! She may just get off the nest and laugh at me, being all up in arms over her being broody, though. Bad Emmy!

Cyn...Spike's girl's lay 2 eggs each day you could have some porcelains under Emily. You know you want them....

Kathy I did not realize you had quit either. Sounds like you did the right thing...enjoy your time off if you decide to go back to work.

For the record....

I FEEL LIKE CRAPOLA!!!!

I return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Ladyhawk, your poor mouth!

I appreciate the offer of the eggs, but I am not going to let you package up eggs and go to the P.O. in your condition. There will be other broodies, I'm sure. I asked DH about trading the Del eggs for the Buckeyes and he isn't keen on having a new breed right now, so I guess I'll just put the Dels under her. I wish someone here had some good quality BBS Ameraucanas so I could add more like my sweet Gypsy, her mama Charlotte and Snow. Nora, I'm not too sure I want to duplicate, LOL. She can be sweet, but she is just weird sometimes. Right now, I could show her, she looks so gorgeous!

Emily was still on the nest at roost time and she had two eggs under her, one of them a Dellie egg (Ellie is my only Delaware laying and she isn't laying as much as normal, either) and another one that may have been Em's.

I have lots of molting going on around here. Between that and the stress from the pen changes, I am not getting alot of eggs. EXCEPT my Delawares .... they are molting AND laying! Amazing, those girls! Half of my Del girls are the originals and half are the younger one. I am getting 9 eggs a day from the 10 girls. Cyn, my original Delawares are gonna be 1 year old on Nov 4th. How time flies!

ETA: Cyn, I think you should put Delaware and Buckeye eggs under that broody Emily! You know they are easy to sell if you do decide you don't them. They are both good layers and have great personalities, too.

Poor Georgie finally did stop laying and is full of quills, Maxie is ailing with some issue we can't exactly figure, but Ellie is still cranking them out, though she is also molting. I just don't have enough pure eggs, but I'll put what I have from Ellie under Emily if she is really broody.

Are Buckeyes really good layers? I'd heard that they aren't, but of course, that may vary, depending on the strain. When I mentioned Bill's Buckeyes (he lives close to me), Tom nixed the idea, but he loves the Del girls, as most folks do.
