I don't know, Tim. I have not paid any attention. However, I am very sick and tired of all the political phone calls I have been getting today!

Us too. I dont' answer the phone unless I know who it is. Most of the time it's not for me so I don't answer it cuz then I have get up and yell for who ever it is. I get a poultry newletter that brought it to my attention. That's why I asked.

Nice pics Nella? I like the Sebastian geese but the water is to far away from the house to get geese.

I warned ya all ..... Here is the ALPHA roo at our place. And I do mean it, in every sense of the term! He wins every confrontation, and no other roo here will mess with him for more than a few seconds! He is the only bird we have that travels the entire property daily, kinda like a watch dog does .... really! You should have seen that big ol' Heritage Barred Rock run for cover from him ..... you could feel the earth shake.

By the way, that brownish color on him .... that is dirt. yeah, that is what color our soil is. Yukky clay soil.

It looks like I'm going to be setting some eggs soon. Should've held on to more chicks cuz the older girls are kaput! Only the younger ones are laying. Heck last winter I was getting 5/5 from the CM's and my Dels. I've got three chicks two of which look like pullets and I hope the older girls lay a few more to hatch before the go, I don't know where just not here. All the original hatchery girls are going too. They'll be two in Feb.

Anyone ever hatch in the fall for spring chickens? How'd it work out? I'd like to get the girls off to an early start and I've learned to prepare for the fall drop off so customers have eggs. I even had a call for hens from a woman I contacted some time ago.

I think if I can cover one of the runs with siding I'll have a new 8 x 24' coop. It'd have to have a dirt floor but they'd be ok wouldn't it?

Oh and there was one less mouse to worry about today. Found him dead in the coop. Not eaten just dead.

That is one scary Halloween roo, Kathy. Good Grief. I am surprised the rest of your flock hasn't fallen over from fright - how big is he?

Tim, your girls shouldn't be done at age 2 - don't give up yet. I had a November hatch, and they started laying early. I don't know if that will end up being good or not. I have heard theories that fall hatches can start to lay before they are fully developed because of the light. They use up energy and protein for eggs that would have otherwise still gone into their development- or something like that. BUT I have only the one hatch, so I really cannot say from personal experience, only hearsay.

All the girls I have now are Feb chicks from Ideal and then the NY dels but I dont' know when they hatched. I have this spring/summer girls laying now. I keep the lights on for the new chicks.
I've gotta couple of pullets that are broody hatched. I keep the lights on in the coop til 8 or so.

Been working on a new quilt project today, but the knot in my back and the nagging headache tell me it's time to fold up shop for the day.

We came close to euthanizing Maxie today, but she was so fiesty, we held off. She has not one ounce of meat on her body, all bones and feathers, but she will walk and walk and scratch as long as we let her. She refuses to eat eggs or yogurt, but will chow down on an apple half so I gave her a couple of those today. She has copper sulfate in her drinking water so maybe if there is anything fungal in her crop, it will resolve that; it feels like one of her huge eggs has turned sideways or even dropped into her abdomen, so that is what her main problem is. Her color is purple, but boy, you open that door and she is out running around like she feels fine. She won't survive this and I will open her up to see what on earth happened in there when she goes or we help her along.

Good Grief! How did I do that? Kathy, if you're completely confused by my last post, don't feel alone. I had to scratch my head over that one myself. I think somehow, in my fuzzy 7AM brain, I got my days crossed up and got one day ahead of myself!

So, just in the interests of complete clarity: You could send them out any time from Tuesday onward and it would serve beautifully on this end. Whatever day of the week that works best for you. Just let me know so I know to stay put and wait for the call from the Post Office!

Ooooh! In looking at the weather forecast, Wednesday is calling for sunny skies and a high of 50F. Perfect!!

Love that unholy terror of a rooster by the way!

Oh yeah! I think I'd run too if I was a little girl and saw that coming my way. I'd run and I'd scream and I'd find the nearest tree to hide behind!
