I was told this by another BYC member who used the red bulb... I think there was a thread about it. But it's an old thread, I think from like mid-2009.

uh huh..well to my knowledge that is buffalo dung. The point of a red heat bulb is to avoid them picking at each other and to avoid constant bright light on them as well as warming them.

There is no scientific proof is accelerates growth and leads to premature aging not does it causes or create and diseases.

I must search for this thread and see where the proof of this nonsense is...beause were it true I would not have 3 year old birds and Cynthia would not have almost 5 year old birds...all healthy.

I swear sometimes I want to take some of these posters and shake them till their eyes bug out.

And for the record....

Do not pour Peroxide on a wound to clean it...it kills healthy tissue

Do not put triple antibiotic ointment on a bird with pain reliever in it..if it has any ingredient in it that says "cane" in the name....there is a 99.9% chance you will kill your bird

Do not put anything on a bird that contains menthol, eucalyptus, camphor and other strong aromatics....result better than not dead bird

Do not give over the counter antibiotics to a bird without knowing what is wrong...some treat some things and other work on something else

Do not feed chicks layer mash

Do Not provide chicks with sugar water ... it will dehydrate them put Avian charge in their water and use poly-vi-sol without iron....or pedialyte

when I think of more stupidity I have seen posted I will update you

Nick, I think Ladyhawk was just trying to show that in addition to all the great information here, there is also much misinformation handed out as fact. And she's right. I think that is the first time I heard that about the red bulb, too. Wonder why they thought that? Hmm.
