You call 10-4:30 sleeping all night?! Woman, are you smoking crack? Sleeping "all night" is like 10pm to noon for me, LOL.

Yes, I have gotten way too cranky to "help" out the newbie questions anymore. Why hasn't my 18 week old chicken started laying yet? Well, maybe because she's 18 weeks old. Ya think? My rooster is attacking me! Well, drop kick his little butt into next week or get rid of him, or put up with it and shut up if you aren't willing to do either.

Mean, angry person. Mean. MEAN.

In broody update news, both moms "abandoned" their nest and have started taking the babies out. Both bowls of baby chick food were empty this morning and both hens had moved their babies to a different spot to sit. Everyone was tucked safely underneath and both hens were fluffed and clucking away.

Ha..... I am not even going to say how many layers I have and how many eggs I am NOT getting! I will say though .... my reliable layers are my Delawares. Of course it may have something to do with the fact that they have not been pen hopping.

They remain in the same coop.

I can name the ones laying out of my 21 laying...

Luna - splash cochin
Ebony - black orp
Blossom - porcelain d'uccle
DeeDee (sumo kung fu chicken) black south american orp
Sandy - EE
Speckled - SLW
Cannonball - Dellie

and that is IT out of 21 layers

Lordy Janelle...I consider a full night's sleep as any night I sleep more than 3 hours straight and 4 hours total.

For those who did not notice...that black south american orp being held by Cheyenne is DeeDee....check out her spurs...that is not an extra toe, her spurs are longer and and more pointed than my roo's. hahaha

Ladies, ladies.....I have over 50 hens and maybe 8-10 eggs a day? I sold my best layers recently. I've got 2 or 3 bantam hens laying of about 20ish....and a RIR hen, a White Leghorn, 2 or 3 olive egger hens, at least 1 White LeghornX laying.....those are the only ones I've caught in the nestbox recently. Oh, and my Jersey Giant hen is laying again. I've got a bunch molting too........of course....no worries. I have approximately 100 dozen eggs in my fridge or on my counter. i hard boiled 3 BUCKETS of eggs the other day. Ridiculous. I am overwhelmed in eggs. I'm about ready to start feeding scratch and scrambled eggs only LOL. At least I could get through the backlog!

Isn't that the truth! Ohhhh, to be young again, and be able to sleep for hours and hours and hours! I think it used to be my hobby when i was young ..... now it is just a dream.

Fattie is not laying? Is she molting or just being stubborn?

Fattie looks like Hell...she s a ragamuffin in molt. LOL She bugs you to pick her up, pecking at your leg or feet...you pick her up and she bites you because she is like a porcupine with quills everywhere...and it hurts her to be held. Silly thing.

Ohhhhh, poor Fattie girl.

I know for a fact that any kind of change affects laying. If I so much as change a thing in a pen (ie move a nest) they will stop for a time. I have changed pens too many times, and every one of them quit, whether they are moved or not (because their neighbor moved!)
