Beth,
When you look at Jersey Giants ..... check the bottom of the feet. They should be yellow, not pink or any other color. Bottom of the feet only. Long backs, Beth. LLLLLL OOOOOOOO NNNNNNN GGGGGGG backs, Beth!

Nella,
I am waiting for pictures! Come on, girl, get on it!

Hillbilly Hen ...... SDWD ! ! !

Hello all....been running around with Sarah (scbatz33) today and am home and going to take a hot a bath after I call my sister for an update...will be back later but I wanted to share today's picture of Cheyenne spoiling Sarah's chickens rotten...hehehe

Cheyenne has told Sarah that she cannot have Napolean or Misty back...she will buy them if necessary. Misty is a splash OEG that is a sweetie pie.

Well short version...had packages to mail out, get hubby ready for his weekend camping trip and get him on the road, no sleep really to speak of, things not going great for sister, junk with Social Services pretty much sure is over but I expect the school to keep harrassing and I am ready to collapse into a hot bath.

Be back later

Kathy, Ya know that old saying about how dynamite comes in small packages? Well, nitroglycerin comes in even smaller packages and has a ten fold higher explosive power than mere dynamite. And that is precisely why our dear Lady Hawk can kick @$$ and take names with the greatest of ease!

Whew! Spent much of the afternoon with little coop projects. We [DH and I] added three new nest boxes under the window on the east wall. Had to take down their roost ladder to do it, but I think they're going to like this much better. Especially Maggie and the twins. I deliberately made the center unit larger than the two end ones in the hope that Maggie will like the spaciousness of this apartment and take ownership of it for her and the girls.

They're both growing so fast now. Poor mother Maggie all but has to sleep out on the stoop to accommodate them!

Sheeesh! I've seen dedication, but Maggie carries this to the absurd! But, I love her for it and wouldn't change so much as one feather on her precious little head!

A new hawk paid us a visit this afternoon too. DH and I were carrying some materials from the house to the coop when the first incident occurred. I never did see the dang thing, but I know my chickens, and I certainly know their body language! One look at the flock and I knew we had something bad in the skies! Everyone just froze in place and all eyes turned skyward. The boys over in their compound were making this long soft shrill sound as if they were trying to get Chief's attention. They needn't have bothered! Chief already had his eye on one particular tree and I could tell he was looking right at the dang thing. Unfortunately, having his eye on one particular tree tells me absolutely squat! We have literally hundreds of huge pines!

I watched them, watching the skies, for the better part of 15 minutes and then all of a sudden everyone went back about their previous business. I never saw the hawk, but I sure knew when it left! And when it returned for a second fly by. But this time I saw it! As did Annie who had just gotten home from school. That kid has some great eyes because she followed it all the way in and kept track of it till it landed. I am, of course, screaming at DH to get the [ahem] pea shooter to discourage the rotten bugger from making any further plans regarding my little feathered friends. Denny was already half way to the house to do just that, but before he could even get there, the hawk took off. Annie and I screaming and waving our arms the whole way, ran all the way down to the end of the driveway in our effort to chase him/her out of here. It must have worked, as it still hasn't returned. I guess there are easier targets in our neighborhood. I think if I were a hawk, I would also maybe think twice about trying to run the gauntlet through two screaming women, four screaming roosters, one barking dog and one man headed for the "pea shooter"

LH, I so hope those fidiots at the school have learned their lesson. Any chance you can enroll Cheyenne in another school by next semester? I think your concern about them not being done in pulling stupid stunts is a very valid one. I wouldn't trust them any further than I could chuck a 50# bag of fertilizer. And believe me, that ain't very far!

OK, I gotta go button up everyone for the night. I'll yack with y'all later folks!

Glad the hawk decided to leave!!!

Mine are constantly screeching the alarm.. the crows and turkey vultures around here are numerous (too many dead cows in the last few months

) but hopefully they'll thin out over the winter. A few hawks, but they stay away from the main housing area, thankfully.

Especially when we crank up the trucks (both diesel), I can hear em peeping inside the cab! They'll get used to it though

They'll probably end up in the basement, for a while, due to the cold, till they get bigger. They are STILL the most curious, sweet and animated chicks to date. I
