Cetawin, Congratulation she is beautiful. And you can see that spirit breaking through. She looks ready to run and just be free a bit. Now rest a bit. You have been through it lately for sure. I am sorry for the loss of Cheyene's little one. It is always heartbreaking but I think how deeply you love Thor and she gets it honestly.

Ok y'all....I have a question. All of my coops open out into a covered run so I do not close that door every evening. Each coop also have a "people sized" door on the back that opens up to the "chicken yard". At any rate, I have 4 of my Col Rock girls that roost OUTSIDE in the covered run every night. 2 on a small a-frame perch and 2 on a stick run between the wires. Tonight its pouring down rain, in the 40s, and all 4 are outside. Now, they know how to go in 'cause that's where the food is. My question is, do I force them into the coop or let them be and let them decide what to do and when to do it?? Crazy girls....aint got much sense

She has her polar bear coat on- being born in Wisconsin does that to ya! The last picture looks most like her - tail up, you can see her dish. I do wish she didn't have the coat, you can hardly see how pretty she is for all the dang hair. She looks like a fuzzball - wait till spring.

With mine, I'd just leave them out. It's pouring rain here, too, and they just stand there and get SOAKED. Full grown chickens should be pretty hardy, I wouldn't worry if I were you. If they need to get out of it, they will. If not, let them be. What breeds do you have?


LH, she looks like she's having a blast and loves her new digs! I wish I could have a horse, but I'm in Buckhead, Atlanta... no can do! Maybe when I move, but that would be AFTER NYC... LOL.​

Chickens aren't very smart sometimes! I would not leave them out. What if it freezes and they are all wet? I heard an expert say one time:
Chickens can get wet. Chickens can get cold. BUT, chickens should not get wet and cold.​

At least 2 babies have hatched! I nearly lost a hand checking......but found two empty olive eggs and saw a single dark baby (probably blue)....no idea what else was "deeper" underneath. She is SCARY AND EVIL.

Scott, I had some incessant tree sleepers here. They were pullets I bought at POL and wild as can be. They would fly up into this tree covered in Ivy. Surprisingly well protected. Flying predators couldn't get them under the ivy canopy and I couldn't knock them out because of the ivy wound through the branches. Anywho, I eventually caught them one by one, clipped wings and then hovered at "bedtime" with my rake to shoo them out of the tree and into the coop. They got it after a week and have never gone back. I used to worry about them on rainy nights.....and would really freak out now that it is actually cold.

Bring those girls in! Make a mesh cage big enough to fit them and lock them inside the coop for a few days.
