Oh yes...I just pulled them out to count them, remove empty eggshells and take pix. Back they went! I have to sacrifice one hand to the pecking machine and stuff the babies under the back part of her butt with the other hand. Ridiculous.

LH, I bet THIS hen would go broody even at your place. This is her 3rd batch THIS YEAR.

THIRD batch in ONE year???? OMG, she is better than an incubator!

Actually, let me rephrase. This is her 3rd batch since APRIL. Broody 3 times in 8 months. It is ridiculous.....

Now is anyone surprised that her daughter, the RIR/Cochin hen with babies, went broody at about 7 months old? I'm not!

Shoot, I should have offered to buy HER, would have been cheaper than the two 'bators I am getting!

Cetawin, how is our Diva tonight? You KNOW that I am so content and grateful that you have her - I could not ask for a better home.

Hey, that's not a bad idea. The only other broodies as good as her are my leghornX....but I have multiples and I'm not sure which ones have been broody multiple times. My half blind leghornX has been broody TWICE and is just now 1 year old. She even sat with this same barred cochin hen the first time, and they shared broody duties.

Those two would be a great pair to sell as Broodies.....they go broody a lot AND they will go broody together and raise chicks together.

Here they are.

I actually had 4 hens try to go broody together......but they kept breaking eggs as a large group, so I split them into pairs. Splash cochin and blue cochin were sisters so I let them brood together, and barred cochin and half blind leghorn just ended up together. But it worked, so who cares right?

Maybe I should rearrange my birds and sell Broody eggs? My blue cochin rooster is the brother of my splash and blue cochin girls. ALL of which have gone broody here. If I crossed HIM with this super broody barred cochin, I'd say that odds are the female offspring will be broody machines. And pure cochin. And the boys would all be blue barred. AND if you crossed the offspring back together, you could get blue barred cochin HENS.

Sounds win win to me.

Wait what breed is she?

She is a Barred Cochin. I crossed her with my RIR rooster early this year and created sex-linked Cochin/RIR chicks. Kept the girl, sold the boys. So her daughter is the one and same RIR/Cochin that went broody here recently and is raising chicks.

Beth, the Diva is doing just great. She is a little humbled the constant kentucky mist and drizzle she was in today...but at dinner time she came prancing up the fenceline when she saw the truck. She waited for me to toss her hay over the fence and she took a quick bite and pranced down to her bucket and looked in it. I had not put her grain in it yet and she popped her head up and looked at me...I said "before you get that tasty grain I have something for you" and I pulled a carrot split in half from my pocket and she literally squealed. hahahaha So she had her carrot then her grain. She escorted me to the water trough and stood there watching me fill it up....I guess the inspection went okay because she did not make a sound when I removed the hose.

She is still getting used to me and a little shy but she is settling in very nicely and getting the hang of the lady in the white truck. hahaha

Nellabean your horse is so hateful....she might be hateful to my JoJo, I could not tolerate such hatefulness. She best stay with you, you are used to her hateful ways.
