Thanks for the kind words - oh yes these Del girls are runners - treat time ! Two acres come flying like dinosaurs wings a flappin - looking for the tomatoe or whatever. This make me feel better and more special coming from well basically strangers - you make me feel that a 43 year old man with tattoos is NOT insane crying over a passed away chicken named Patsy! LOL

I think the only viable egg under Nugget belongs to Riley, so it's a cross. Hope it's a pullet or will rehoming it. Brown's Feed will be open on the 24th so if there are any left, I can pick up a couple bantams to put under Nugget (they're expecting a shipment of 100 bantams).

KAAATTTHHYYYY!!! OH KAAATHYYYY!!! YOUUUUWHOOO!!!! Where are you woman? You're showing as being online, but we've not heard from you all morning. Did you fall asleep at the keyboard last night and still haven't logged out yet?

How are them Del babies doing? I think Knox is gonna need a couple two or three or ten of them!

Awww! Poor Nuggs. All that hard work for next too nothing.

How many chicks are you going to give her on the 24th Cyn? Just enough to cover the eggs that didn't hatch? Or maybe more on account of bantams only count as half a chicken!?!?

Sometimes it looks like I am on, when I am not .... because I keep a BYC window on all the time. When Brittney is on the computer (on facebook usually), she checks my BYC stuff and hollers at me, too! LOL Always a BYC page on, in at least one window. LOL

Oh yeah .... I'm here, off and on. I am researching in another window. I did not know this, and am researching it....

Just going to toss out a little rooster fertility fact for all that do not know, roosters have a gland in/or near their eye that like the same gland in a pullet that needs 12-15 hours of daylight to tell her to lay an egg..... it is said that roosters need 12-15 hours of daylight to assist in fertility.

.... light that stimulates hormone release is not the only thing that contribute to infertility in roosters. Edited for a little more clarity other than just stating that this is the only thing that makes them fertile. Also edited for time reference.

all I know is that when reading tons and tons of stuff, I read about infertility in roosters and it was suggested that the pineal gland can be triggered to release hormones by the use of light. Circadian rhythms...include, daily egg laying, crowing, heart rate and more. These daily functions are thought to be controlled by the daily cycle in hormones, such as melatonin, the suprachiasmatic nucleus, pineal gland and eye in the chicken. It's an internal clock type thing and proposed that it can be brought on by light and dark cycles.

This also explains why a blind rooster would not crow, and would not be fertile.

That's it, I'm to stick bags over my rooster's heads. All of em.

Sure don't have any fertility problems here...........

Did I mention I did the every so often "break the egg in the pocket" trick last night? Yay me........I also found a green duck egg at the bottom of the bucket of duck eggs. My ducks don't lay green! I very gingerly transferred it to the trashcan

Too funny! Denny did it in grand style one day. This was waaay back when we first started and our girls had finally come into lay. He had collected one lonely little egg one morning and so stuffed it into his shirt pocket. About two hours later, he had completely forgotten that he had put it there. As he stood there talking to me, I asked him what was in his breast pocket, cuz I could see a definite bulge there. Silly git! He goes patting his pocket, trying to remember what it was he had put there.

The look on his face as the egg shattered into a million pieces and proceeded to soak his breast pocket was absolutely priceless!

OMG! Just thinking about it starts me laughing all over again!

GREAT NEWS Kathy.....I got a single eggs from the Canadian CRs....hoping there are more to come with some size

Now, gotta ask, who all believes in this Global Warming notion??!!

It was 14F here yesterday with a HIGH of 27. Hasn't been above 30 here all day, now they are calling for ice tonight. I live in the DEEP SOUTH for a reason....I don't like this kinda weather. Where's it coming from and who needs it back??!! Someone is enjoying nice Fall like weather at MY expense. We get 2 days (Fri/Sat) near 50, then a chance of SNOW again on Sunday.....what gives already??!!

I do hate the summer heat, but this weather has gotten to be a bit ridiculous already

Stay warm all....
