Poor ol' Severus!

He gets in trouble for just being ...... for being Severus!

Oh, I used to love those Bill Cosby shows!

I made it! I am staying home from work today though......hopefully my power stays on. Looks like its already starting to thaw a little.

Anywho, i've decided to open a theater. I am going to have early morning showings of Chickens on Ice!

Here are my treacherous steps. Grip tape does no good when it is frozen under a layer of ice. I squatted down to almost sitting and crept down the left side holding onto the rail.

The chicken coop area. Solid ice on a hill. That was by far the hardest....I crept up the right side holding onto the planter wall thingy. Sure was a lot easier getting up than down!

And the chickens had no better luck. I present....chickens on ice! Bad quality, no idea if you can even tell. The chickens were not impressed. (you have to click it to get to the video)

Forgot to mention.....checked the garage brooders this morning as always. Barred cochin mama and babies lost their heat lamp last night. It went out, for whatever reason. So it was cold and dark in there. Good thing there is a broody! She had all those babies tucked in nice and warm under her. I replaced the bulb and they immediately popped out and started running around LOL.

Time to log into work. Sigh.

Okay I got pics of the Diva's christmas tree as promised...she is such a hoot. She was sniffing at it and talking to it...she loves the blue candy canes too...odd because they are flavored blueberry...hahaha

Her tree:

Her with her tree:

She is such a joy to have around but she needs intervention....she is a carrot addict! OMG that girl is a mess. I have had to switch pockets where I put the carrots because she almost threw me down...she stuck her head through the gate and grabbed the pocket they are normally in, looking for more carrots and I turned to walk away and she had a hold of the jacket pocket and it snatched me back towards her. hahahaha

Oh now that's cute!!! Blueberry, huh?
gig.gif
Hey! I like blueberry! Why not her too?! Cetawin, is that tree real or artificial? I can't tell. Either way, it looks great! What a spoiled horse!!
lol.png
Don't anybody make any more comments on how I spoil my chickens! Ya hear me? Not. One. More. Word! I can't hold a candle to what LH is doing with that JoJo!
lau.gif

Chief and the girls got to go all the way outside today!!
wee.gif
Not just out to their covered run, nor the main fenced in yard, but all the way out to total free range time!! OMG! You'd think I just gave them a gift beyond their wildest imaginations!
gig.gif
All of the girls were darting here, there and everywhere. Poor Chief!
lau.gif
Ever see a rooster try to go 20 different directions at the same time?
gig.gif
Poor boy! My heart really went out to him. It's been so long since they've had any real free range time that he had kind of lost the knack of keeping all of his girls close to his side. He had to give out a few rather serious reprimands to several of the girls before he finally got them back under control.
lol.png
There's going to be 20 girls and one boy who are going to sleep like babies tonight for sure!

So! Where is everyone?!?! Nella? Are you OK? Report if you can dear. Hopefully you've just been busy with telecommuting today and haven't actually lost your electricity. That porch looks pretty darn scary to me! Wild horses wouldn't be dragging me out there!

Kathy? Are ya still enjoying balmy weather?

Cynthia? How are you doing? Any more new snow since your last report?

Come on you guys!!! Y'all have been conspicuous by your absence all day long!!! You're starting to make me worry!!

I'm here! I'm here! Played outside off and on all day today. 40* and not windy at all. The kids all went outside and ran around. Jacob has regained his weight that he lost while molting, and is full of energy now. I noticed today that he let Oliver know, "I am back, Buddy, so back off!" Oliver is #2 again, and does fine with that.

I am thinking of clearing out a pen for Oliver sooner rather than waiting until spring. I have 3 girls I want him to mate. I dunno .... maybe I will wait, but I am thinking about it. I would like to hatch some chicks from this mating, and then switch and use Jacob, and see how his chicks are with these same 3 girls. Ya know, play around with the matings and see what I get....

Anyway, that's what I have been thinking about today.

I got an egg from pen #2, and also another Barred Rock egg today. This just makes me soooo happy! I won't hatch pen #2 eggs until all 4 girls are laying. May be a few more weeks..... (pen #2 is the project pen. Big BR roo over New Hampshire girls)

I looked at my 4 teenage Silkies today (2 buff and 2 black) and discovered 3 are female and 1 buff is a roo. YAY, I am sooo happy! Next sexing will be the 6 youngest ..... some day. I really need to get the scissors out there and do some trimming. They have such huge crests and beards, really .... really, they can hardly see at all. Yes, I need to get that done tomorrow. By the way, Nella, do you want some of my Silkie chicks? I have a few in the bator.

Amy, You and Ladyhawk BOTH spoil your kids rotten! Furry and feathered kids!

I am alive and well! It thawed out nicely and I even had to get dressed and go into the office around noon! Darn them.

I have to tell y'all.....I got flogged by a rooster today! LOLOL, that hasn't happened in a while.

Guess which rooster?

My 6 week old Jersey giant/Cochin boy! Crazy little booger. That group was sharing the brooder with the "older" kids and I decided to move them....when I reached to where that group was huddled in the corner, he jumped up and started flogging my hand! Impressive for only 6 weeks. Little buggar......

I pulled the RIR/Cochin girl. She still loves her babies but I need to start integrating the batches of babies and I can't do that with her in there with them. So she is spending the night in a crate and will go back out to the yard tomorrow. I stuck the oldest batch of 7 in the brooder with her 9 babies......man, I have some of the CUTEST chicks ever. I have noticed, however, that all of the blue wheaten colored boys are by far the most aggressive. The blue wheaten in the oldest batch attacked the blue wheaten in the younger batch and they drop kicked each others butts. I think the little one won! He had feathers in his mouth afterwards at least
roll.png

My "older" chicks that are like 5 months old now.....started laying! I got the cutest bitty egg from them today. I think i am going to keep them all. Nobody wants to keep "big" birds under heat til spring so I will just have to do it myself. They are so cute and friendly too.

For the first time tonight, every single outside bird was up on a roost in the coop! It has been ages since that has happened.

Oh, remember I said that might have a broody? My white frizzle is indeed in the nestbox EVERY NIGHT....and tonight after I collected eggs from under her, she was mad and grabbed the wooden eggs and rolled them back under her. Very broodylike. JUST WHAT I NEED. Sigh.

Well, when ya got no human kids of yer own, your pets become your children. You know how these things can go!
gig.gif
So, that being the case, how do we explain LH?!? Hmmmm...
idunno.gif
She's just weird I guess!
gig.gif

Good to see you're still alive and kicking girl. Ya had me worried!
