Honestly, I can picture it so vividly. The sock ..... oh, the sock ..... *sobbing in laughter* ...

AMYYYYYYYYYYYYY, I can NOT stop laughing! It is killin' me seeing the image of poor ol' Chief with the sock on his neck........... *more sobbing* ..... and ...... and ....... and trying to...................... OMG, killin' me ............. tryin' to roost!

Well, please don't tell him I said so, but it was all I could do to keep from bursting out laughing at him the whole time!

You know how easily a roo's ego and self esteem can be, at the very least, ummm....bruised? Yes, bruised, we shall say. And Chief is no exception to this. He works so hard at being taken seriously. And by and large, he really does have the respect of everyone in the flock. Including and especially the other boys.................

and then along comes Maggie.

She just plucks him right down off of his golden pedestal and and trounces any hope he ever had of looking like "The Dude"!!

Poor guy! If I don't figure some way of keeping Maggie away from his neck, I fear he shall succumb, just as Sampson did! Had I known she was capable of this little bit of devilry, I might have named her Delilah!

*insert evil snicker here*

If it weren't for the fact that Chief doesn't seem to mind her doing that to him, and for the fact that she is already soooo attached to him, and other than the aesthetics of it all, of which I seem to be the only one who has a problem with it, it would probably do more harm than good to separate her from the flock for a few days, maybe weeks. But tell me, where the heck would I put her? And her daughters! The girls are still terribly attached to their mama. I know the boys wouldn't harm a feather on their precious little heads. I wonder if the hackles of three robust boys would be enough to fill that avaricious little gullet of hers?!?!?

I shall just have to sleep on it and think about it again in the morning. G'night y'all. Sweet dreams, and don't forget to hug your chickens!

Oh, and Kathy, if you feel better after that giggling fit, all the better!! Take care sweetie. I'll yack with ya more tomorrow.

Thanks so much for your help, everyone. Guess we'll go buy TWO bags of feed today... $$$$$$$

Well, just to let you all know, my grandmother died last night. She was 80 and she had came to visit for the holidays as usual, but she was miserable the whole time she was here, plus we always try to convince her to FLY instead of drive... but she drove anyway. Well when she became 5 minutes from her home, she had just picked up a McDonald's, she got in a car crash and died instantly. She was like a second mom to me... we were SO close. So I'll be staying with my dad for a few days while my mom goes to TN to arrange the funeral. Meg, my grandmother's dog, will be staying with us until we find a good home for her. Now I'm with my family sobbing... it's gonna take a while to get through this.

Why no pics. I hate when folks don't post no pics. I have a good imagination but not that good.

Cyn, 6* well isn't that special, I was glad when the water nipples in the coop were froze. Suppose to be 50 here on Sat. I can't wait.

Now I have to say I like to hatch chicks but I hate when one starts early and the rest take their sweet time. A couple of pips but no more chicks. Of course today is only day 21. I worry when they pip and don't hatch right away.

Well take care everyone and stay warm. This office is 80* and way to warm yet the rest of the house is to cold. The office is good for hatching and maintaining an even temp on the incu.

Amy, I think I just figured it out. Maggie is hopelessly in love, in her mind, with a Turken. That's it, her true heart's desire is to have a Turken man by her side.

Cyn, Don't you have any of that global warming up there in those Georgia mountains? Gesh, it is colder and more wintery there than I have had. Thus far, we have had only one dusting of snow. It was gone within a day. I am happy with that, and could totally do without the snow and ice and be quite happy.

Nick, Sorry for your loss. Grandmothers are very special, for sure. I am sure you treasure those fond memories of her.

Nick, so sorry to hear about your grandmother

Amy, does she only pick on the roost? if so, maybe just move him away from her. I had girls that would pick at my rooster when he was younger.....back when I only had a dozen girls and a single rooster. They did eventually stop. He was molting at the time and they were apparently helping him lose his feathers.

As far as the sock......haven't you ever put a sweater on a cat? They immediately forget how to walk or stand up.

Remember my bumblefoot girl? She is molting right now...mostly nekkid and looks HORRIBLE. Nothing like being naked at 15 degrees.......
