for blue chickens! JUST SAY IT!!!!!

Do y'all have any idea of how hard it is to type with about a ten pound rooster on your head? Any idea at all?

Well, let me tell ya, it ain't easy! I'm beginning to feel like the Hunchback of Notre-Dame here, just trying to keep Chief from sliding off and perhaps ripping off my ear in the process. I keep telling him that this isn't really working for me, but he seems pretty content up there and determined to stay up there!

I think I'm gonna put him to bed, so to speak, and then I'm heading to bed myself.

Sorry I'm not to chatty tonight. It's been a long day. Stick a fork in my butt and turn me over, cuz I think I'm done! To all, I hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable evening. May tomorrow be bright and filled with good things happening to you.

Well i'm gonna make the Buff Orp pen into a laying pen. In that pen I plan to keep 6 out of 15 BO hens, 1 BLRW hen, 2 JG hens, 2 Partridge hens, 1 JG ROO, and may or may not get rid of Willy.

THen my EE/OE Pen my 1 EE roo, 2 BCM hens, and 2 EE hens

My Lav Orp pen will have 1 Lav Roo, 2 Lav hens and 1 Split hen

Then I have my Partridge Cochins that I want to keep seperate. Not sure about them yet.

Then a pen for my tom and 2 hens.

So it looks like I will have 26 to sell but that will be less when mom decides which ones she wants. She says she wants 6 or 7 hens and she doe not want a rooster, lol She wont budge. I don't like them and I dont want to hear them, lol

That sounds like a great plan, Brandon! Your layers coop sounds great, and they will have the JG rooster with them. You can make Olive Eggers and you still have your 2 BCM girls for nice dark eggs, too. I just set up a pen like yours today ... Lavenders .... 1 Lav roo, 1 Lav pullet (older generation), 1 split pullet, 1 black English Orp pullet. I hope to make some bigger and better Lavenders. Gonna try anyway.

Well i'm overrun with roosters, lol . THats why I need to part with some. I want to keep one JG rooster in particular because he seems like he will be awesome. Loving little feller. As far as Big Willy I have come to almost hate him, he might end up in a stew pot, lol. I really want Boone my younger Lav Roo to go to a really good home. I would be tickled if I could get LH to take him. I know shes partial to Blues but hes purty. As far as building I would need a pen for my Cochins and one for the Turkeys. I thought about a hoop house for the Turkeys. Not real sure?? Mom wants a selection. So I think she will end up with one hen of each of my breeds. And I still want a couple Del hens for my laying pen. So looks like I will end up keeping 30 out of 56. But i'm still brainstorming.

I love how we are all looking to sell birdrs.

I am planning on having my usual "big flock" out in the "big yard" and "big coop". My bantam mottled cochins in the old "baby pen". And the Olive egger breeding guyss in the current rooster pen.

8x8 pen: 6 bantam cochins (mottled pen)
16x24 pen: 7 LF birds (olive egger pen)
1/2 acre yard: 21 LF birds and all 12 teenagers "growing out" (big yard)

that leaves 14 boy teenagers that will be given away once butchering age, 4 roosters that will be given away, and 3 hens for sale.

I may continue to downsize once these olive egger teenagers start growing up. Hard to stay now. It would be awfully nice to have just the 34 birds and no young ones. We'll see.....

I've had a dozen chickens, 40 chickens and 150 chickens. I sure enjoyed my chickens more when I had 12-40 of them.....

I hear ya! Downsizing is not easy..... BUT, I agree with Nella, it really was much more enjoyable with fewer chickens. I just can't do it. I can not part with some of these birds. I just can't! I will just keep working my butt off and taking care of them, I suppose. At least I do have some help some times. Brittney's fiance' (oh yeah, she got engaged on Christmas Eve) lets the chickens out in the morning, and then I go out later and feed and water them.
