Nugget just kept Roosevelt and I had to take him away from her before began mating all the old ladies in that coop, LOL. I think he was 14-15 weeks old when Cattitude came to get him. When Nugget's are bigger, I plan to move her and all five into that coop just like we did with her and Roosevelt. I'm betting I get another broody before long, just not sure who it will be. I refuse to let Dusty have eggs if she goes broody--next time she gets sick of them and tries to kill them all, I may not be so fortunate to be right there like the last two times.

Speaking of your half blind hen, Janelle, I am betting that Tiny will go broody. She just seems the type to me. She was on the nest for a few hours yesterday, then finally laid an egg, but she had me a bit worried there for a while.

I'll try to get a pic of Nugget and the babies today if I get out there before the rain starts. The light in the Firetower is red, so may mess with the pics, but I'll see what I can do.

Chief is talking up a storm here this morning. I think he's starting to go a bit shack wacky. Anybody have an opinion or thoughts on whether I should let one of the girls come visit him for a short time today? Just a little visit to let him know his girls are all fine and so that one of the girls see that he's still with us and doing good and can take that info back to the flock. Somehow, I don't think those silly women believe me when I tell them he's feeling better, and will be home soon!

Nugget tries to shield them from the camera-monster, so I didn't get any really great ones, but here they are. It's in the 30's and DH turned off the red light so I could take a pic, which is why the little ones are hunched up a bit:

Aw babies! How cute

Nugget sure looks happy.

Cynthia, my half blind hen has gone broody a couple of times. She LOVES being a mama......she can be a little standoffish in the rest of the flock because of her blind side, but when she has babies she is so happy.

Cyn, they're just so precious!! And ya gotta love Nugget and her protective ways with her wee ones!

Knowing that she'd block a predator the same way makes me love her all the more! That and the fact that she looks exactly like my Gimpy Girl did.

She would have made an awesome mama too! Doesn't Nugget usually reside with Suede? I'd give my eye teeth for eggs from those two!!!

Thanks for going to the effort to get such great pictures Cyn! Now, get that heat lamp back on 'em! It's COOOOLLLDDDD out there!!!

Actually, Nugget lives with the old ladies and Shadow in a rooster-less coop next to Suede's. She would certainly be big enough for him, but his coop is too small for comfort if I added more ladies.

LH, you'll be happy to know that I saw Suede mating Smoky yesterday, so he's gearing up for Spring. He's still got it, that boy!

Amy...it is up to you about Chief and a girl...you know him better than we as to how he is feeling and whether or not you feel he is not contagious and it is merely phneumonia,

Ooohh LadyHawk! I so hope you get a chance at another son of Suede!

You deserve to have one. I'd so love to have a daughter of his for my flock!

You're right about Chief. So far, I haven't seen any other symptoms manifest themselves. If there is anything else going on, he's doing a bang up job of hiding it!

He gave me a little bit of a scare last night with what I first thought was a runny nose. Turns out he was snorkeling in his water dish again!

I might let him have a visit with one of the girls tomorrow. The temps are supposed to come up for a day and then plummet back down around the zero mark by Saturday night. I don't want to stress out any of my girls by taking them back and forth from a cold environment to warm and then back to cold again. That just can't be good for them!

Guess I'll just have to play it by ear....literally!

Thanks for all of the advice, feedback and concern for my big boy folks! I can't begin to tell you all how much it means to me to know that there are those of you out there that fully understand and empathize with my love for this big silly bird!
