OMG! That's just too funny! It's almost enough to make me want a silkie of my own!

Oh she is a hoot! Originally *ahem* I just wanted the three partridge babies Lori brought me...but she came with 2 cute Mille babies so Cheyenne wanted those (both of which we lost

)...Then because Cheyenne wanted a black silkie, Lori had a black silkie baby hatch from her partridges and wanted it to go somewhere she could follow and because Chy wanted one...I went to Lori's on my way home from Cyn's to pick up the baby....but by that time it is a tiny broodermate soooooooo I came home with it too because I did not want to leave it all alone in the garage (yes sucker is written in red across my forehead) and so now Jet has a black body with partridge colors splashed on her neck, throat and chest. I have 2 boys, 2 girls and Jet. LOL

They are like lays potato chips...you can't have just one. LOL I am really loving my bantams gal. They are so cuddly and sweet and that is where they getcha.

I would put her in a nest away from the others, or partition off a little corner for her. Do you have a dog carrier you could put her in? I have used just a kitty litter pan as a nest, and just put wire around a little area. She just gets up once a day to poop and eat and drink. She really does not need much room.

She would be fine to brood in the hen house, if you watch that she returns to her nest (and not another), but you would just have to be vigilant about collecting eggs every couple hours for 3 weeks. You know, though, when she hatches those chicks .... the other girls could attempt to kill them. It is best to give her her own space.

No, she will not quit brooding 3 or 4 days early. Heck, some broodies just won't give up, and will sit and sit and sit!

Oh thank you Kathy! That gives me hope! My plan is to [quietly] knock out the divider between her box and the one next door, and then put a hinged screen door type of an affair on the outside of that bank of nest boxes. I'll leave the south end one open to the rest of the girls for laying as they are really jazzed about this newer set of nesting boxes. I don't want to take that away from them.

Giving GeeGee two compartments to herself should give me ample room to put in both feed and water containers, without compromising her ability to get up and stretch a bit whenever she wants. Overall about 36 inches long, by 16 inches deep and 16 inches tall. I should think that would be large enough, don't you?

And nosey little Maggie is just going to have to content herself with looking through the screen at GeeGee, sitting all proud and happy on her nest!!

Oh Thank You! Thank You! Thank You Kathy! This really does give me great hope for her. Hmmmm...I might even slip an extra egg or two into her nest tomorrow!

Good luck with Maggie, Amy! You are one great broody mama! Yes, I too love looking at Kathy's pictures. Her flock and herself are amazing.

Sometimes when I have nothing to do I'll go look at her flock pics page LOL.

Kathy, how nice of Brandon! What a great surprise! The only chicken related things I get are poultry catalogs.

Rehearsal was a blast- we had a cast pizza party afterwards. We finished run throughs and 23 dance numbers! Yeek! I am so excited.. I just love this so much! I love it! I think I'll stick with this theatre for a while... Know whats next?? RENT!!! Aaahhhhhh!!!! I am SO there! Yes yes yes yes yes!!! Weeeeeee!!!

Edited to add...

Zucchini, my EE hasn't laid since Friday. The hours are only getting longer and the snow is melting, so I'm pretty confused. She acts completely normal, poop is normal, she's hungry, I see nothing else different. Egg bound, maybe?

If she's not acting bad, I wouldn't jump to the idea of her being egg-bound. Maybe she just needed a few days off? They're chickens not machines ya know

As for as broodies go, don't forget I am the EXPERT here LOL. Or maybe not. But I've had girls broody for MONTHS. There is no 21 day clock in their head. I think they just sit until babies hatch out or they get tired of sitting. Also, just because she hopped off those eggs for a day doesn't mean they were bad. I've had that happen a time or twenty and haven't had any major problems. Maybe if it was day 20 or something, but that early on they should have been okay, I would think. Is there nowhere to make her a little broody area? Just partition off a corner of the coop for her, give her a nest with her eggs, some food and water and a little extra room to go poop. My 2x4 brooders are perfectly big enough for a full sized broody to sit, eat drink and poop.

Kathy, I also forgot to say anything about your brooders/chicks. Looks like you have your hands full! Cute babies though. How are those sussex doing?

Nick I would not think egg bound just yet. My girls are still not laying for spit. It is too cold and even though the days are getting longer, temps have a lot to do with it. My 2 EEs just starrted laying again. Give her time.
