Oh boy, I am EXHAUSTED. That coop had about 6-12 inches of poop shavings and hay all mixed together. I hadn't cleaned it out in.....a VERY VERY LONG TIME. I am a bad chicken owner.
I made my temporary compost area. Hauled those ridiculous bags up to the front area and hauled the bales of shavings back down (via mower and trailer).
Then, using my plain ol handy dandy square tipped shovel, I cleaned out that entire coop, one shovel full at a time. I filled a wheelbarrow full and then would roll it down to the compost pile about 50 feet away, dump it and then roll that stupid wheelbarrow UPHILL to repeat. Over and over and over and over.
Got it down to the bare wood, all grossness out and all roosts and shelves scraped as clean as I can get them.
Refilled with nice new fluffy shavings (3 full bales).
Then I fixed the front bottom part, at least good enough for chickens.....
Here was the front of the coop yesterday.
and now after my work today.
Can't forget my crazy helper #2.
I also cleaned some stuff up near the garage, got everything all put away and good to go. Phew.
I still need to get a few bags of topsoil and then use them to fill in in front of the coop to make it more even. Maybe tomorrow......
