Oy. I took a nap and now everything is stiff and sore. Darn this getting old thing! LOL
The coop was so beautiful when i went out tonight to lock up. All the chickens were in and up on the clean roosts. This is the perfect "max" stocking level I should have in there, everyone has lots of roost space and it hopefully won't get gross as quicly with fewer in there.
Kathy, whatcha talking about only having a few chickens? I defy all laws of coop stocking levels. My coop is only 8x8, but since my birds free range during the day in the big yard. EVERY SINGLE DAY NO MATTER WHAT, I way way way overstock it since its for roost time only. 8x8 coop currently has er....40ish? Which includes 10 younguns. So, 30 full sized birds, 10 younguns.
I would not recommend my stocking levels to "normal people" but it works for me. I have added on roost space a few times now, which is why I have those extra "ladders" along the window wall. As long as I have the roost space, the coop stays peaceful. Right now I have roosting space for about 60 birds. But only 40 in there. So it is nice.
It would be nice to only have 20 birds in there so I could lock them in if I needed to. Hmmmmm....may need to downsize more.
I moved two of my scarecrows into the big "rooster pen" and let out my mottled flock this morning. They were very much enjoying the huge open space, after being locked in the 4x8 coop for the last 2-3 weeks. And they all went to roost in the coop tonight, like good little birds. Excellent. That will have to hold me over until I can get a covered area built for them. Scarecrows! LOL. I will add a couple of "covered tables" in there tomorrow, so they have places to dive under if need be.
Cyn, at the very least you shouldn't have any trouble placing the dels! Not that you would with the orps either, but hey now I'm going for glass half full
