Because I like to make you all think I am superwoman, let me tell you how my evening went.

I got home from work a bit after 6. Let the dogs out and got my new 11 chicken saddles, went out to lock the chickens up and wrangled the saddles onto 11 of them. Got everyone locked up, fresh water to the 2 garage brooders, dogs brought back in. Collected my whopping 2 eggs......vacuumed the entire house, washed and boxed 12 dozen eggs

Got all the dogs fed and let back out for potty break #2, both cats fed, 1 cat given meds, both litterboxes scooped, dinner made (baked lasagna) and now I am finally sitting on the couch playing on BYC. Phew....Oh yeah, I put a load of laundry in and took the trash out.

So now 3 of my chickens have SUPERCHICKEN saddles. That cracks me up to no end.

Don't feel bad Nick. I've been here for awhile now and I still forget who is who in Cyn's flock from time to time!

There are a lot of them to keep track of, you know!

Beth, I think I will give it a try then. It's those typically large pellets that they seem to object to. And heck, as you say, failing them liking the smaller pellets, I can always crush it up a bit before giving it to them. Gawds! But they're just so spoiled!

I gotta laugh at Chief this afternoon. I took some feed and water in to GeeGee so that she wouldn't have to get off of the nest if she didn't really want to. I knelt down to her level and held each dish in front of her to make her selections. All the while, Chief was above her nest box, peering over the side and just generally putting his big fat head and comb in my way of being able to see how GeeGee was doing! Big silly brute!

He just has to make sure that I'm doing a good job of taking care of his special girl right now.

This is my first experience with this aspect of keeping chickens. Do roo's generally take a greater interest in one of their girls when they go broody?

Chief spends hardly any time out free ranging with the rest of the flock because he's usually sitting on the platform above GeeGee's nest.

One strange dude my beloved Chief has become. BUT! He still comes over to cuddle up with me every chance he gets. So, I'm OK with this fascination with GeeGee!

Nick- I am not joking - look up posts of her staff building her double decker brooders for her.

Amy- Ultrasuede stood by the fence line and watched Harriet and her chicks constantly. He and Luke both dug nests for their girls, and Boo and Ivan are starting to do that, too. I think a good roo probably takes an interest in every aspect of his women's lives.
