Sure wish I could be there. Sounds likea lot of fun. I so badly need to make a trip south.

We had a heat wave today, it got up to 30 but I was not feeling quite up to shoveling the coop even with DH's offer to help.

Well, I think I am gonna have to move the chicks out of one of the "Nellabean Broody Coops." I am quite sure I have 2 broodies. Black silkie mama AGAIN, and an Icelandic.

I broke up my little Harriet's family today. I had to throw Boo and Ivan the Terrible into the quarantine pen this morning. Ivan is a totally violent Don Juan type, and Harriet is too dang small to take his weight. She is this tiny little BSL, and he just crushes her. He practically stunned her this morning, and then he wanted seconds!!! And Boo was standing in line to take his turn. It just broke Ivan's heart to be separated from those girls, but Emma needs to go in the Del pen, and Belle doesn't need to be the only hen in with two studly young roos.

I HATE to do this, but I may have to rehome Boo and Ivan. If that is possible. They are both gorgeous, big boys. Ivan is dominant, but they are both really nice with people, and Ivan in particular is a great head roo, always clucking for the girls, they both dig them nests.
How on EARTH do you rehome a mutt roo? Do you think they will be ok being bachelors after having had a s-- life?

May is only 3 months away!!! Cyn, I will bring my little trailer, so we can stack sections and parts up if we need to.

It seems a bit harder to rehome a mixed breed rooster for sure, unless he's really cool-looking. That's the main reason I don't like to hatch too many crosses. We haven't seen pics of those two in ages, Beth! What do they look like now?

You re-home them through Craig's List Beth. And you specifically state that they are of mixed breed and that they are PET quality and are to be adopted AS PETS! NOT MEAT! Unless of course you start to get desperate to re-home them. At that point, if it were me, I'd reword my listing a little to say "What you do with them is your business. I just don't want to know about it"!

As for keeping them as pets in a separate coop and enclosure, Brutus, Red and CB have never complained. And you just KNOW those three had their way with the women often before Chief made it very clear that he wasn't going to tolerate any more shenanigans from those boys! I removed them from the main coop and yard for their own protection. They're very happy, loving boys to this day. Oh sure, I know they'd love to have flocks of their own someday soon. And I'm working on it. But for now, I think they're just happy to be alive!

When I sell or give away chicks or chickens, I rarely ask any questions. After they are out of my hands, and out of my feed bag, I have nothing to say with what someone else wants to do with their chickens. I have asked about what kind of coops and feed they have, but that is more as an educational message, it seems.
