I am so glad to hear your flock is doing well. Honestly, using bleach is such a good thing. It kills all kinds of bacteria and creepy germs.... good stuff.

Cyn, I hate those long drawn out hatches, don't you? I loved this last one that was done in 24 hours.

It is a most beautiful day here, 55* right now. BUT, the mud slick ruins my fun outside. Honestly, I go sliding in slime. Gezzz, I hate this. I wanted to take pictures today, but the chickens look awful with mud up to their ankles.

Third Delaware pip. It's nice and warm here today. The breeze is a tad cool, but Nugget and her babies are spending most of the day outside. The D'Uccles are 7 weeks and the other two are almost 6 weeks, so they're fine. I'm about to remove the heat lamp in the Firetower and replace with a regular bulb. Our electric bill was crazy! And we tested our furnace for two days when wood ran out, but then we stopped using it. This is a very small well-insulated house and the stupid bill was about $180.


ETA: I added some eggs to the bator as they were laid today, another of Ellie's, one of Meg's and one of Smoky's, plus another of Miranda's.

Don't have any idea why this suddenly printed without me submitting it, Yikes a mind of its own today. Cyn I only use my heat when I am asleep and mine was 189.00 Yikes. I too have a heat light in the big coop. Also the warmers for the water. but if I remember I was gone for two weeks during the first big snow and I know my chicken, house person, friend did not use the wood stove much . I hope that is what it was.
I think I had a draft in my coop while I was gone those two weeks also. A piece of plastic over a wire window was almost off when I got back and the cold air was just puffing in there until I fixed it. Now no more drafts well not much anyway.

Gypsy deserves all the love she can get. Don't let those Dell. women get it all. I love that little girl. Remember I told you if you did not want her I did. Someday I will brood me one or two of the true ameracaunas. Right now I am trying to cut my flock down . I have several two yr. old comets. They are mean to the other hens they go for sure. One Br. leghorn and one EE that act like I am dracula when they see me. And maybe another one or two. I am keeping Maxine, Misty, and Fog my new roo from Storm. I gave Stormy to another home. Fog is very friendly at 20 + weeks I hope he stays that way. Stormy was always standoffish. I guess because he was raised by a hen. I love my Buff orps too. The Dells of mine are really sweet so far and laying about a med. egg. One is on the skinny side and if she does not fill out some soon she will go. If I have them I want them to conform to the shape they are suppose to be. I hope that Suede is up to par. It would be sad to think not. Gloria Jean

Gloria Jean, I am happy to hear that your birds are doing better. I have not had any issues yet but was thinking about doing the bleach additive.

I sure wish I could hire someone to clean my coop. I don't mind the shoveling but don't think I could haul the stuff in the deep snow. DH has offered to help but has to work tomorrow and is helping oldest son on his car in the morning. Maybe Sunday. I really want to get the welsummers put in the breeder area of the coop.
I finally ate a small meal today, I am paying for it now. I have lost nearly 10 pounds in the last two weeks. Test results show nothing with the gallbladder but I did find out that I have a small nodule on my left lung. I will have to have it checked again next year. I have another test scheduled for Monday.

Gloria Jean, I am going to be inconsolable when my sweet Gypsy passes on, and the same for her mama, Charlotte. Those are the sweetest hens on the planet. It's why I'm going to incubate some more Ameraucanas in March with the rest of the eggs. I love my bearded ladies!

Of course, you'll get pics of the newest little Dels when they make their appearance. So far, the first pip is a tad larger. Can't see any others besides those three I mentioned.

WOOO HOOO, it is now 61* here! Working outside I had to take off my jacket. I did take some pictures. It made me realize, WOW, I have really downsized! I actually have 4 empty pens (gonna use them for grow outs). Layer coop is full. I divided it in half, one side for roosters and one side for the girls. I am near maximum capacity in there, and would like sell 6 or 8 more (2 RIR pullets and 4 - 6 rooster maybe). I let the layers free range and I let out just a couple of the roosters with them. The boys can take turns being protector of the girls.

Cyn, I can hardly wait to see more Del babies! I have just 6 Del girls now, and they are in with Oliver. Today I got 5 eggs. I am hatching all of them. So many want Delawares, and I am trying to help out. Has nothing to do with me being a hatchaholic, you know.
