Ah, sweet, sweet Charlotte. Her many babies live on and you will be seeing her in them for the rest of your life, I imagine. I loved that girl. So sorry for your loss and what a loss it is. She did indeed have a wonderful life...the best!

I'm officially not mentioning my age (one doesn't when one is older than anyone else who mentioned it

but cry for these lovely feathered souls I do.

First off Hugs to Cyn!!!

Well I had a couple suppose to come pick up all these roosters lastnight. Well they were a no call no show. So I went to the next email and called and a young couple came at 930 lastnight and took 10 roosters and 1 Buff Orp. hen. Big Willy went with them too. I kinda hated to see him go, BUT after him whipping me all last summer I felt better about it. Im trying to weed the buffs out and get down to just the Lavenders. SO now including my new girl from Sarah (her name is Julie) I have Jack,Jackie,Peep,Myrtle. So I think 5 is a good start. Im thinking that these Barred Hollands ( I have 15 eggs) in my incubator if they hatch I might make a flock of them. They are on the Heritage endangered list. So i'm back to having options again.

Good luck with those Barred Hollands, Brandon! Some of the hatchery types don't even lay the proper color egg anymore so they need some "plumping up".


LH, it wasn't Shadow that hurt Sunny, if that's what it was at all. More likely, it was Caroline. She has been pushing Sunny around, even though Sunny was head hen in the old ladies' flock before I put Caroline and Miranda in there. NOBODY pushes Caroline around.


Found this small egg in the old ladies' coop. I know it isn't Miranda's, Caroline's, Lexie's, Sunny's or Nugget's for sure. The only other choices would be my RIR, Reba, laid a clunker or Tasha, a 14 week old Delaware, laid a pullet egg. I rather doubt it, but anything is possible, I guess. She has been investigating the nests lately with a different attitude. The egg is small and brown, but can't be a D'Uccle egg (wrong color and too large).

Cyn, cry sweetie. By all means, go ahead and cry. Your tears do Charlotte honor, and shows her spirit how much she was [is] loved and will be missed. Tears are never a shame.

Whether four days, four months or four years, this forty-nine year old woman will always cry at the loss of the ones she loves, feathers not withstanding!

Take some measure of comfort Cyn, in knowing that she did not suffer, nor linger long. She's on the far shore now, chatting it up with Ivy and the rest.

WEll just to let you all know ... that i survived auction number one of the weekend - but didnt make it thru auction number two . My friend as a thanks for raising his chicks got me the most beautiful trio of Bantam Barred Rocks - touch on the big size thus the reason the breeder was acutioning them - but the body lines - barring - stunning. Roopaul- Jujubee- and Pandora are at home as we speak. They quickly settled in and in 4 minutes in their pen Roopaul bred Pandora. Within a half hour they were eating out of my hand. I have to admit i an completely in love already. Now to wait for babies. The neatest lil chickens i must say! Some one get me bantie new hampshires and we will make bantam Dels! LOL Pictures forthcoming Amy! Just been too busy.

I have a pip! A porcelain D'Anver egg is pipped on Day 19!

One life fades away and another one is born. It helps today of all days to see my long awaited porcelain D'Anvers hatching.

FINALLY ..... I am back online.
OMGosh.... It has been horrible. The kids and their guest (mama and 1 week old premie baby) had to come take cover in our basement. Winds were horrific, and power outage over 5 hours.

3 day old chicks in the brooder huddled and survived. Mud slick outside today.

I am sooooooooooooooo tired of weather being head line news around here!
