Charlotte was gone this morning. Found my 5 1/2 yr old Buff Orp, Sunny, sitting in the coop floor looking spacey, weak on one side, her head lolling on her neck. I believe she has had a stroke, just like Tux did. The symptoms are the same, so she may be gone by tomorrow. Details later. My old ladies are passing on. 54 yr old housewife cries over dead chicken, film at 11.

ETA: LH, you hit on something when you said not all people die when they have a stroke. Went to check on Sunny in the broody pen where we put her to keep from being picked on. She has snapped out of it, somehow! We gave her a baby aspirin and a vitamin E capsule, but she is talking and can definitely see--she acted like her sight was impaired. Either she had a mini-stroke or was hit in the head and disoriented. In any case, she's acting normally right now. What a rollercoaster! If it was a mini stroke, she will probably have a massive one later on, but for now, she's still with me.

Cyn that is awesome. I am so glad Sunny has snapped out of it...could the princess be behind this? Mean ole thing. I am sorry about Charlotte. Heck don't you worry about headlines like that...47 year old women cry like babies over a chicken....you remember how I was when Thor died...you love your birds and there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Knox that sounds like the one I saw the advertisement for...I really want to go...make a note to remind me when it comes around again just in case I do not catch the info locally...I really want to go to an Amish auction.

Cyn, sorry about Charlotte, there is no shame in crying over the ones we love. I am glad that Sunny seems to be doing ok.

Inkheart, we have sand put in our old out door run and only managed to get part of the new run done before tractor issues. It really does help with the drainage but I could not tell you how much we put down. Maybe 4 to 6 onches deep? Type of sand...just whatever DH dug from the property. Good luck.

Knox I have head good things about sand in the run. You can call around and.find.sand by the ton truckload etc. I have heard they use construction sand from Lowe's and home depot.
